Kamisato Ayato has been a long-awaited character ever since he was mentioned by his sister Ayaka and teased at the end of Itto's character trailer. Thankfully, the wait is over for fans of the Yashiro Commissioner. Genshin Impact Version 2.6 finally introduces Ayato as a playable character, brandishing a katana as sharp as his wit and Hydro abilities as cool as his composure.
Indeed, Ayaka's older brother is a Hydro Sword user who functions primarily as a main-DPS character for your team but also offers unique supportive capabilities with his Elemental Burst. Although you could survive using a three-star sword like Cool Steel or Harbinger of Dawn on Ayato, as a main-DPS character, it's worth it to equip him with a weapon more befitting his status. Amenoma Kageuchi is a great place to start since it is one of the strongest Forgeable weapons in the game. Its stat profile gives Ayato ample ATK, while the sword's passive effect helps him recharge his Burst faster. Although you'll have to source Crit Rate from somewhere else while using this sword, it's an effective, attainable option for almost all players.
The Black Sword is a four-star option that can be acquired from Genshin Impact's Battle Pass, which means that fully free-to-play players might miss out on this one. Nevertheless, if Genshin Impact has been dipping into your pockets a bit, The Black Sword is a respectable weapon for Ayato. It features a relatively high Base ATK and a Crit Rate secondary stat that complements Ayato's innate Crit DMG. The passive is not wasted on Ayato either; Ayato's Skill counts as Normal Attack DMG, meaning it benefits from this weapon's 20% bonus. Naturally, all five-star swords are good on Ayato and will likely outperform their four-star counterparts. That being said, when you want a five-star you want the best five-star, of which there are two for Ayato. Primordial Jade Cutter is renowned for being exceptional on most sword wielders, but it is even better on Ayato. Primordial Jade Cutter's high Base ATK and substantial Crit Rate are already fantastic, but Ayato gets to double-dip with the weapon's HP bonus. Ayato's Skill DMG scales upwards with his Max HP, meaning that Primordial Jade Cutter's passive and Ayato's Skill amplify each other for a massive increase in damage.
Haran Geppaku Futsu, Ayato's signature sword, is clearly his other premier option. It boasts even higher Base ATK than Primordial Jade Cutter, along with a passive ability that was tailored specifically to the leader of the Kamisato Clan. Ayato can easily gain Wavespike stacks while the rest of your team performs their abilities, and when he switches back in, he'll enjoy up to 40 percent increased damage on his Skill. This is a fantastic weapon if you want to go all-in for Ayato.

Ayato's best Artifact sets all function in roughly the same way (by buffing his Normal Attack/Skill DMG), but with a few important distinctions between them. Keep in mind, though, that all three of these four-piece sets will perform fairly equally, so it's fine to pick the set you have the best sub-stats for and go with that.
Gladiator's Finale is the most straightforward of Ayato's Artifact options: his Normal Attack DMG is increased by 35 percent, meaning his Skill DMG is increased by 35%. This is a sizable bonus with zero restrictions or playstyle adjustments required.
Heart of Depth will essentially cost you a small percentage of Normal Attack/Skill DMG in exchange for more Hydro DMG. This will make his Elemental Burst in particular rain a bit harder, which might be helpful if you're utilizing Ayato in a more supportive role.
Echoes of an Offering, one of Genshin Impact's newest Artifact sets, asks how lucky your Ayato is feeling. Sub stats should likewise focus on Crit Rate/DMG, ATK%, Energy Recharge, and HP%. Even though it's a tad unconventional, HP% is a decent sub stat for Ayato since it will boost the damage dealt by his Elemental Skill.
Kamisato Ayato's Talents And Constellations
Ayato can take advantage of all aspects of his kit more so than many characters, but there is still a clear prioritization when it comes to leveling up his Talents. Ayato's Skill should be enhanced first because it is his main source of damage and how he will usually spend his time on-field. His Burst should be leveled up next, especially on teams where your other characters want to benefit from the Hydro application and Normal Attack DMG Bonus it provides. Finally, Ayato's Normal Attacks can be leveled up if you want. They're not technically weak, but they are the part of his kit that you will probably utilize the least.
Ayato's Constellations are strong, but remember that none of them are essential. Aside from his C3, all of Ayato's Constellations buff his Elemental Skill in some way. Considering Ayato's Skill is his main source of damage, this means you're getting a lot of bang for your buck if you decide to fish for his Constellations. The potential damage increase from Ayato's C6 is positively absurd, but the bonuses from his earlier Constellations are also significant. Go ahead and roll for these if you enjoy playing as Ayato and want to see his Skill do more damage.
