Thoma is a four-star pyro character in Genshin Impact and a great companion to the already powerful Hu-Tao. If you are hoping to pull him though, then you are going to need to do some grinding to level him up all the way. Thoma, like most characters, is going to take quite a bit of mora, experience, and enemy drops to reach maximum level.

If you really enjoy his playstyle, then you may even want to crown him. The guide below goes over everything you need to know about leveling Thoma, ascending him, and ensuring that all of his talents are maxed out.

Thoma's Ascension Materials

If you want to use Thoma properly, then you will need to burn some experience books and mora. Below is how many books you will need to use in order to get Thoma to level 90:

You will need to gather Agniduse Agate to level Thoma along with Smoldering Pearls. Smoldering Pearls can be gained by fighting the Pyro Hypostasis on Kannazuki Island. To make the fight easier, check out our guide here.

You will also need to gather enemy drops and Thoma's favorite plant:

Treasure Hoarder Insignias can be gathered from Treasure Hoarders, so you likely already have quite a few in your inventory. If you still need insignias, then you can find Treasure Hunters roaming around ruins in all three regions. Fluorescent Fungus is a bit harder to get as it is found around Tsurumi Island.

Thoma's Talent Materials

Lastly, you will need to ensure that you are leveling Thoma's talents. Keep in mind that you will need to gain constellations level three and five to reach level 15 in all of his talents. By leveling talents, you are ensuring that you are getting the maximum output from his attacks; the following items will be needed to fully level all of Thoma's talents:

The Transience Scrolls can be farmed from the Violet Court domain located on Kannazuka Island on Monday, Thursday, and Sunday. The Hellfire Butterfly is a reward for beating the weekly La Signora fight at level three or above. In addition, you will need three Crowns of Insight if you want to crown Thoma, these are mostly given out in events, but a few can be earned from the Sacred Sakura Tree.
