Final Fantasy 14, like most MMOs, has you set up on a home server — or world to be exact — and that's where you'll live out your digital life as the Warrior of Life. It used to be that you could only party up and speak with other people on the same world server as you, but Square Enix later updated the game to implement the World Visit System.

This feature allows players to travel to other worlds that are on the same data center as their own, and Square Enix will be adding even more functionality in the future when the Data Center Travel feature launches too. So what exactly does this all mean, and how can you travel to other worlds? We break it all down for you right here.

If you're looking for information on Data Center travel, you can find it here.

How Do You Visit Another World?

If you want to visit another world, you need to travel to any of the three main city states — Limsa Lominsa, Ul'dah, or Gridania — and interact with the Aetheryte there. Choose the 'Visit Another World Server' to bring up the World Visit System menu.

This menu will show you your Home World, your Current World, and a list of available worlds you can travel to. There's also a breakdown of the restrictions of the World Visit System you can peruse if you wish.

Click whichever world you wish to visit and confirm your destination, at which point you'll be thrown into a queue much like when queuing for a duty, or if you're lucky, you'll be set to travel almost immediately and a small window will appear to show you're about to jump to another world. You'll end up in the exact same location as you were before — whichever city you were in — but on the new world.

While waiting to travel, you cannot leave the area you are in, use the Aethernet, or enter duties. Travel to another world cannot be cancelled, so if you change your mind, you have to wait until you travel to the next world, then choose to travel back home.

Returning Home

You can travel back to your Home World by simply repeating the process from an Aethryte in one of the three main cities and selecting your Home World as your destination.

Logging Out

If you log out while on another world, when you log back in you will still be on the same world you were visiting.

Visitors From Other Worlds

Any players that visit other words will have <<Wanderer>> beside their name to show they are visitors.

Restrictions When Visiting Other Worlds

While visiting other worlds, there are a few restrictions that will affect you. Here's what you need to know.

Deep Dungeon Though you can still take part in Deep Dungeon runs on other worlds, your results will not be saved to the leaderboards.
Eternal Bond Ceremonies You cannot take part in Ceremonies of Eternal Bonding when visiting other worlds, so you cannot host your own nor visit the ceremonies of others.
Free Companies You can still chat with your Free Company, but you will be unable to view your Free Company information menu, company actions will not be in effect on other worlds, and you cannot earn any company credits on other worlds. Additionally, you cannot create or join Free Companies while visiting other worlds.
Gathering Legendary and unspoiled gathering nodes will not be available to you when visiting other worlds.
Gold Saucer You cannot take part in Lord of Verminion or Triple Triad tournaments when visiting other worlds, nor can you purchase Cactpot tickets.
Housing You cannot purchase estates or apartments and residence sharing is not available.
Linkshells And Novice Network You cannot use your normal linkshells while on other worlds, nor can you view their information, leave them, create new linkshells, or join new linkshellls. However, you can still use cross-world linkshells.
The Novice Network will still be functional, but you will join the Novice Network of the world that you are visiting.
Market Board And Retainers You can purchase items from the Market Boards when visiting other worlds, but you cannot summon your retainers unless you are on your Home World. Naturally, this means you cannot place any items for sale or send retainers on ventures while on other worlds.
However, you are still able to list items for sale by using the Companion App even if you are visiting another world, but only items that are currently in your retainer's inventory.
Moogle Delivery Service You cannot access the Moogle Delivery Service while visiting other worlds, so you must return to your Home World to view any letters you receive.
Teleport Eternity Rings and Aetheryte Pendulums can only be used if both players are on the same world. Teleporting to your friend's estate only works when you are on their Home World.
World Transfers, Characters, And Bonuses You cannot apply for a Home World Transfer nor can you choose to delete a character if it is visiting another world.
You are still able to change the name of your character or retainer when visiting other worlds, but the name restrictions will be based on the world you are visiting. So, if the name is already being used on the world you are visiting, you cannot change to that name.
If your character was created on a Preferred World and is eligible for bonuses, these bonuses will still be in effect when you visit other worlds. Visiting a Preferred World will not give your character the associated bonuses.

Which Worlds Can You Visit?

At present, you can only visit the other worlds on the same Data Center at that of your Home World. Here is a list of each Data Center and the worlds on each one.
