Let's take a look at methods for changing your character's appearance, as well as how to do so.

How To Get A Fantasia

A Fantasia is a unique item that will allow you to change your character's entire appearance. There are currently three ways of getting a Fantasia.

You will receive a free Fantasia as a quest reward from the quest 'The Ultimate Weapon', which is the final quest of the original A Realm Reborn storyline. This is the only free way to get a Fantasia, so be sure to use it wisely.

The only other way to get a Fantasia is to purchase it for real money. They can be purchased through the Optional Items store on the Mog Station for $10 / €7 / £5.75 / ¥1080.

Alternatively, you can purchase the Heavensward Digital Collector's Edition, which will give you one Fantasia, among other in-game bonus items like the Flying Griffin Mount. Keep in mind you can only purchase this upgrade once, so if you need additional Fantasias, you'll have to buy them through the usual means.

Note: If you have an account from when Final Fantasy 14 had the Veteran Rewards feature implemented, you might have received a Fantasia from your subscription time. Fantasias from the Colletor's Edition and old Veteran Rewards program will appear in the inbox of every new character you make, providing you were eligible to begin with.

How To Use A Fantasia

When you use a Fantasia, you will essentially create your character's appearance as if you are making a new character. You will be able to start completely over from scratch or edit small features of your existing character's appearance.

A step-by-step guide on how to use a Fantasia is listed below.

  1. Select and use Fantasia from your inventory
  2. Unequip gear and log out (you do not have to unequip your weapon)
  3. Select re-edit character from character selection sub-menu
  4. Choose to load appearance data or start from scratch
  5. Change your character's race, gender, voice, and other appearance options
  6. Finalize your changes
  7. Log back in to see your new appearance

If you decide you don't want to change your appearance, you can instead log in again without doing anything. You will keep the option to edit your character until you decide to do so.

How To Use The Aesthetician

If you only want to edit minor things about your character's appearance, like their hairstyle or hair color, you can use the Aesthetician. This NPC will allow you to edit basic parts of your appearance without spending money on a Fantasia. To unlock access to the Aesthetician, you will need to complete the following quest.

  • 'Beauty Is Only Scalp Deep' - S'Dhodjbi, Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X:11, Y:11)

You will need to be level 15 and have previously completed the Main Scenario Quest 'Call of the Sea' to accept this quest.

After unlocking the Aesthetician, you can access him from any Crystal Bell item. You can find the Crystal Bell in an Inn Room, or purchase one for yourself to place in your house or apartment. It will cost 2,000 Gil to change your appearance here.

Through the Aesthetician, you can change the following aspects of your character's appearance.

  • Hairstyle
  • Hair Color
  • Eyebrows
  • Lip Color
  • Facial Features
