You will explore this dungeon in a group of four players or with three Duty Support NPCs. Compared to the first two dungeons, Copperbell Mines is quite a bit longer, but has more interesting and updated boss encounters. Let's take a look at each boss and encounter in this dungeon, and how to beat them.

How To Unlock Copperbell Mines

Copperbell Mines is unlocked through the following main story quest.

  • Accept the Main Scenario Quest 'Into a Copper Hell'
    • NPC Location: Momodi - Ul'dah - Steps of Nald (X:11.6, Y:9.6)

Dungeon Walkthrough

Throughout the Copperbell Mines, you will need to find pinches of Firesand that you will then place at certain locations to blow up parts of the wall and progress further into the dungeon. When you reach an area with a Blasting Device, be sure to look around and find the Firesand. Place the Firesand into the Powder Chamber, then use the Blasting Device to blow up the rubble and head deeper into the dungeon.

There are several side rooms you can explore throughout the dungeon that may have Treasure Coffers inside. If you're looking to collect some loot, be sure to explore the optional areas of the dungeon.

Kottos

The first boss of Copperbell Mines is Kottos, who will use the following attacks.

  • Grand Slam: Kottos will deal high damage to the area around his primary target, which should be the Tank. The Tank should move away from other players while the Healer prepares to restore their health.
  • Lumbering Leap: Kottos will leap to three spots around the arena, dealing damage in a large circle each time he lands. Find the spot where the boss will not hit and move there to avoid this attack.
  • Colossal Slam: Kottos will deal damage in a large cone to his front, dealing damage. Move outside the area of effect (AoE) indicator to the sides or behind the boss to avoid taking damage.
  • Catapult: Kottos will target a random player and throw a rock at them, dealing damage. The Healer should restore the targeted player's health.

Kottos will repeat these attacks until he is defeated. The main one to look out for is Lumbering Leap, as this attack will target a majority of the arena. Quickly find the safe spot and move accordingly to avoid taking damage.

Ichorous Ire

The second boss of Copperbell Mines is the Ichorous Ire. This slimy foe will use the following attacks and mechanics.

  • Syrup: The Ichorous Ire will target all players with an AoE circle that deals damage. Spread out and move outside the AoE indicator to avoid this attack.
  • Fluid Spread: Similar to Kottos's attack Grand Slam, the Ichorous Ire will target the Tank with a high damage AoE attack. Deal with Fluid Spread in the same way as Grand Slam.
  • Divide: When the Ichorous Ire reaches roughly 50 percent health remaining, it will summon several Ichorous Drips around the arena that will cast Burst after a short delay.
    • Burst: The Ichorous Drip will deal damage in a large circle around itself. Find the safe spot between the exploding Drips to avoid taking damage.

The Ichorous Ire will repeat these mechanics until it is defeated. It will repeatedly cast Divide while below 50 percent health, so be prepared to dodge multiple uses of Divide and Burst in a row.

Gyges the Great

The final boss of Copperbell Mines is Gyges the Great. This boss's attacks and mechanics are detailed below.

  • Gigantic Swing: Gyges will deal damage in a large area with a safe spot directly underneath the boss. Move into Gyges's hitbox to avoid taking damage from Gigantic Swing.
  • Gigantic Smash: Gyges will target an area in the arena with a large circular AoE, dealing damage in the area. Then, similarly-sized AoEs will appear around the arena at random, which will deal moderate damage. Avoid the first attack by watching the AoE indicator, then be ready to move to a safe spot away from the subsequent AoEs.
  • Grand Slam: This attack is the same as Kottos's Grand Slam from earlier in the dungeon. Respond in the same way as before.
  • Colossal Slam: This attack is also the same as Kottos's Colossal Slam, and can be avoided in the same way as before.

Gyges the Great will repeat these attacks until he is defeated. The main thing to watch out for is Gigantic Smash, as this will cause AoEs to appear all over the arena. Move accordingly to dodge them and avoid taking damage.

After defeating Gyges the Great, Copperbell Mines will be complete. Don't forget to roll for your loot before exiting the dungeon.
