Although the Hecatoncheir uprising was thought to be dealt with, it seems a new group of giants has appeared in the mines. After groups of miners have gone missing, you are called to the scene to once again delve into this dungeon.

This dungeon has some difficult encounters that build on some mechanics from the original Copperbell Mines. Let's take a look at each boss you'll encounter in this dungeon, their attacks and mechanics, and how to beat them.

How To Unlock Copperbell Mines (Hard)

Copperbell Mines (Hard) is unlocked through the following side quest.

  • Accept the quest 'Out of Sight, Out of Mine'
    • NPC Location: Hugubert - Mor Dhona (X:22.0, Y:8.7)

This quest will be available after reaching level 50 and completing the Main Scenario Quest 'The Ultimate Weapon'.

Dungeon Walkthrough

The layout of this dungeon is very similar to the original version, with only a few minor differences. Collapsed rocks will occasionally bar your path, and you'll need to destroy them to continue. While you attack the rocks, nearby Spriggans will throw rocks at you, dealing damage. Quickly destroy the collapsed rocks while healing through the Spriggan attacks.

After the first boss, you will encounter a group of stranded miners. They will help break the large collapsed rock that blocks your path, while Fulminator and Hecatoncheir Wallcrasher enemies attack them. Protect the miners while they work on breaking the rocks.

Hecatoncheir Mastermind

The first boss of Copperbell Mines (Hard) is the Hecatoncheir Mastermind. This fight will take place on a winding narrow path, with groups of Mining Dross enemies in groups of three down the path. As you fight, you'll need to move down the path to avoid certain attacks, detailed below.

  • Dark Fire III: This is the main mechanics of the fight. The Mastermind will periodically cast Dark Fire III as his health is lowered, creating an AoE of burning fire that covers part of the arena. As the fight continues, this fire will cover more and more of the arena, forcing you to move further down the path to avoid it. As you move, you'll need to deal with the Mining Dross enemies.
  • Mining Dross: These slime adds will inflict the Poison debuff on their primary target, dealing damage over time. Group them up and kill them to reduce the amount of damage your party takes.
  • Flambeau: These enemies will also periodically spawn as the fight continues. They will move up the path from the back of the arena, casting Self-destruct when they near the party. Self-destruct is a large AoE that deals high damage. Either destroy the Flambeau before it explodes, or run to a safe spot to avoid the explosion.
  • Hecatoncheir Rockvaulter: This is the third type of additional enemy you'll encounter in this boss fight. Rockvaulters will periodically cast Overpower, a cone-shaped AoE to their front. The Tank should pick up these enemies and face them away from the rest of the party to avoid hitting them with Overpower.

These mechanics will repeat as the fight continues. As you slowly move down the arena, watch out for new enemies that spawn. Be sure to group them up and kill them before returning your attention to the boss, as the narrow arena can make this fight hectic.

Gogmagolem

The second boss of Copperbell Mines (Hard) is Gogmagolem. This boss takes heavily reduced damage from attacks, and must instead be damaged by Waymaker Bombs. These can be summoned by activating the Improved Blasting Device. After summoning the bomb, one player must pick it up and carry it near the boss, then wait for it to explode. As the Gogmagolem walks up and down the arena, you'll need to predict where it will be when you place the bomb.

Additionally, the boss will use the following attacks and mechanics throughout the fight.

  • Rockslide: The boss will deal damage in a line AoE towards its primary target. The Tank should stand away from the rest of the party to avoid hitting them with this attack.
  • Plaincracker: The Gogmagolem will deal damage in a point-blank AoE around itself. Move outside the AoE indicator to avoid taking damage.
  • Earthen Heart: The boss will target a player with an AoE circle that drops a burning puddle on the ground. Avoid moving inside the puddle while it persists on the ground.
  • Kindling Sprite: These adds will spawn throughout the fight, and will cast Dark Fire III, an instant cast AoE that inflicts Burning on its target. The Healer should vigilantly restore the party's health throughout the fight, and all party members should focus on killing the Kindling Sprites when they spawn.
  • Blasting Cap: When activating the Blasting Device, a Blasting Cap will also appear, and immediately begin to cast Self-destruct, dealing high damage in an area around itself. Move quickly out of the area after activating the Blasting Device to avoid this attack.
  • Biggy: After the Gogmagolem has been defeated, Biggy will emerge from the rubble of the golem suit. This enemy will use Romp, a frontal cone AoE that deals low damage. After destroying the Gogmagolem, kill Biggy to end the fight.
  • Shattering Cap: During the Biggy phase of the fight, Shattering Cap enemies will appear around the arena. These enemies will use a large version of Self-destruct that covers a majority of the arena. Quickly kill Biggy while moving out of the Self-destruct AoE.

The best way to approach this fight is to make sure everyone has a role. The Tank should group up enemies while remaining the primary target of the boss, and the Healer should keep everyone alive. Then, one DPS player should focus on activating the Blasting Device and bombing the boss, while the other works on killing the adds that appear.

Keep in mind that holding on to the Waymaker Bomb for too long will cause it to explode in your hands, dealing damage to you and nearby party members.

Ouranos

The final boss of Copperbell Mines (Hard) is Ouranos. This boss is accompanied by an Abyss Worm that moves around the edge of the sandy part of the arena, dealing damage with Sand Pillar at set intervals. Avoid the Worm's path as you deal with Ouranos's other attacks, detailed below.

  • Mercurial Strike: Ouranos will deal high damage and knock back in a point-blank AoE around himself. Quickly move outside the AoE indicator to avoid taking damage.
  • Power Attack: Ouranos will target a player with a large AoE circle that deals damage and inflicts the Heavy debuff, slowing movement speed. Move outside the AoE indicator to avoid taking damage and being debuffed, which will make avoiding subsequent attacks more difficult.
  • Bottomless Desert: Before the Abyss Worm uses this attack, the message "The abyss worm is searching for fodder will appear". If nothing is done, the worm will create a whirlpool in the center of the arena, dragging in players and dealing high damage. To avoid this, one player should pick up one of the Crystalline Rocks around the edge of the arena, then carry it into the sand. Dropping it into the sand will draw the attention of the Worm, and prevent it from using Bottomless Desert.
  • Hecatoncheir Rocksplitter: These enemies will appear throughout the fight, but don't have any unique attacks. Simply group them up and kill them when they appear.
  • Impact Roar: Ouranos will deal damage to all party members. Use AoE heals to recover the party's health after this attack.

Ouranos will repeat these mechanics until he is defeated. One player, usually the Healer, should be in charge of carrying the Crystalline Rock when necessary, while the other players focus on Ouranos and the adds. After Ouranos is defeated, Copperbell Mines (Hard) will be complete.
