Final Fantasy 14 offers many things to see and do, with loads of weekly events that can reward you with tons of EXP and keep you busy in the process. The Wondrous Tails weekly event is amongst the best, which is an excellent way to revisit old content and power level Jobs.

While not new by any means, Wondrous Tails is still an underrated weekly event that many people are still overlooking. Still, even if some of the quests you're required to do can be a tad bit tedious, the payoff more than makes up for things and will help you cut down some of the more demanding levels in no time.

Unlocking Wondrous Tails

Before you can partake in the wonderful Wondrous Tails event, you must first meet a few requirements. Fortunately, unlike some activities in Final Fantasy 14, you can access Wondrous Tails without much effort.

Quest Name Requirement Quest Giver Location Rewards Unlocks
Keeping Up with the Aliapohs Disciple of War or Magic, Level 60 Unctuous Adventurer Idyllshire (X:7.0, Y:5.9)
  • 0 EXP
  • 103 Gil
  • Wondrous Tails
  • Fantastic Mr. Faux (Level 80)

Wondrous Tails Journal

After completing the quest listed above, you can start filling out your Wondrous Tails Journal. To receive your Journal, speak to Khloe Aliapoh in Idyllshire (X: 5.7, Y:6.1).

  • Please keep in mind that a new Wondrous Tails Journal will be made available for you every Tuesday at 1:00 AM (PST) or 4:00 AM (EST).
    • You can hold onto a Wondrous Tails Journal for two weeks but can grab a new one every week if need be.
  • You can also view the contents of your Journal via the "Key Items" menu. Additionally, no two Journals will be the same.

After retrieving your Wondrous Tails Journal from Khloe, you will notice several tasks for you to complete on the left, along with a 4x4 grid on the right. Successfully finishing tasks will place a seal randomly on the grid. Your goal will be to complete at least nine of the objectives presented to you in your Journal.

Furthermore, while your main objective is to complete at least nine tasks, you will get additional bonuses for having three complete rows (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) of seals in your Journal. The catch, however, is the odds are significantly against you. Placing nine seals in a 4x4 grid leaves you with 11,440 outcomes, but only 24 of those will actually complete three rows. In betting terms, you're looking at a 1 in 500 chance of you hitting it big.

Handing In Your Journal

Even if your odds for hitting the jackpot boil down to "never going to happen," you should still complete the nine tasks and hand your Wondrous Tails Journal in every week. The reason? Well, you are guaranteed an absurd payout in EXP (estimated to be roughly half the EXP cost of your current rank). As an example, let's say you need 7,205,000 EXP to go from 85 to 86. Turning in a Wondrous Tails Journal with nine seals will guarantee you 3,602,500 EXP, which is pretty much unmatched with other events found in Final Fantasy 14.

In short, do nine tasks and hand your Journal in every week. In the grand scheme of things, it will take hardly any effort nor much time to carve out some of your usual time spent in Eorzea to tackle the Wondrous Tails event. If you are looking for a guaranteed way to power level additional Jobs or need to cut the later levels down significantly, this is the best method.

Second Chance

Completing Duties with "one or more party members who are new to the duty" will grant you one "Second Chance" point, which you can spend to either get an easy seal for your Journal or for a chance to get the dream row placement.

Once you unlock Wondrous Tails, you will start to accumulate Second Chance points whether you have a currently activated Journal or not. Furthermore, you will only get one Second Chance point per Duty, even if more than one player is new to that specific Duty.

Action Cost Description
Retry x1 Second Chance Point Restores an already completed task to "incomplete," allowing you to redo it for another seal. Retry will also change an incomplete task to "completed" as a result.
Shuffle x2 Second Chance Point Randomly reorganize the positioning of your current seals. Shuffle only works when you have between 3 and 7 seals.

We recommend using "Shuffle" whenever you have seven seals. This way, the last two seals you earn have a better chance of completing a row,

Rewards

In addition to the guaranteed EXP payout, you can see some other rewards you can get if you're lucky enough to complete multiple rows in your Journal below.
