The Masked Carnivale is special single-player content for the Blue Mage class of Final Fantasy 14. The content is arena-based, pitting you against one or multiple enemies. It is the sort of battle style that is almost like a puzzle, having to problem-solve certain fights with the many Blue Mage skills you have on hand.

Of course, before digging into that content, you have to unlock the Masked Carnivale first. Luckily, that is much easier than the Masked Carnivale itself and can easily be done in just three steps. Even after unlocking it though, you may want to collect as many Blue Mage skills as possible.

Step One: Become a Blue Mage

To become a Blue Mage, you will have to reach level 50 in a combat class and complete the main story quest, "The Ultimate Weapon." Those are the only two requirements. Once they are met, go to Limsa Lominsa at the Lower Decks. An NPC named Zealous Yellowjacket will be at (X:9.9, Y:11). They will bestow the first Blue Mage quest called "Out of the Blue."

Once the quest is complete, you will become an official Blue Mage. However, you are not quite ready for the Carnivale yet.

Step Two: Reach Level 50 In Blue Mage

Of course, Blue Mage starts at only level one and you need to be level 50 to get into the Masked Carnivale. This is going to take some level grinding. Some players do this solo while others find it quickest to run around with other Blue Mages. It is recommended to learn Sticky Tongue from any big frog enemy and use that to quicken the grind by drawing enemies to you. It is also good to keep your chocobo out as a helper during battle.

Suggested grinding areas based on level are:

  • Level 11-25: East Shroud
  • Level 25-33: Eastern La Noscea
  • Level 33-36: Upper La Noscea
  • Level 36-41: Coerthas
  • Level 41-45: East Shroud at Larkscall
  • Level 45-50: Western La Noscea at Skull Valley

As you level up, be sure to complete every job quest that pops up on the way. These include:

  • Blue Leading the Blue (Level 1)
  • Blue Collar Work (Level 10)
  • Why They Call It the Blues (Level 20)
  • Scream Blue Murder (Level 30)
  • Blue Gold (Level 40)

Step Three: Complete The Real Folk Blues Quest

With the jobs quests done and level 50 reached, go to the Steps of Thal in Ul'dah. There will be the NPC, Maudlin Latool Ja at (X:25.5, Y:13). He will give out the required quest "The Real Folk Blues" for unlocking the Carnivale.

Once the quest is complete, speak with the Celestium Attendant. They will also be at the Steps of Thal at (X:11.4, Y:13.2). After speaking to them, you will have unlocked the Masked Carnivale!
