All weapons have received a new perk column in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen. Named Origin Traits, these perks provide useful benefits that mimic intrinsic perks from the original Destiny. A Veist weapon you find might auto-reload itself when damaging targets, while a Trials weapon gives you stat bumps while you're the last living member of your fireteam.

Origin Traits serve to give weapon foundries and activity-specific weapons more of an identity over their contemporaries. In this guide, we'll be going over what Origin Traits are, how they work, every Origin Trait source, and what every Origin Trait does as of The Witch Queen expansion.

What Are Origin Traits?

Origin Traits are intrinsic perks available to all weapons from The Witch Queen expansion. When you receive a Year 5 weapon, it will come with an additional perk column with at least one Origin Trait. These traits are determined by the weapon's drop source or manufacturer, effectively giving weapons an intrinsic quirk or feature.

For example, all Veist weapons now drop with the Veist Stinger Origin Trait, giving your weapon a chance to automatically reload itself when it hits a target. While the chance of it activating is quite low, it's a useful effect when it procs and gives all Veist weapons a unique identity. All Legendary weapons come with at least one Origin Trait, and they are not randomly rolled.

Origin Trait Sources

There are two factors that determine a weapon's Origin Trait:

  1. The activity the weapon comes from.
  2. The weapon manufacturer.

Crafted weapons come with the weapon's manufacturer trait. If the weapon lacks a manufacturer, it'll always come with Psychohack.

For example, all Vanguard weapons will drop with the Vanguard's Vindication trait, recovering a small amount of health whenever that weapon slays a target. Let's say that you get the Fortissimo-11 to drop, a Suros Shotgun that comes from Strikes. This weapon would have both the Vanguard's Vindication trait and the SUROS Synergy trait.

Just like barrels and magazine perks, only one of those traits can be active at a time. Pinnacle activity weapons (GM Nightfalls and Trials) have both their endgame activity and core activity traits to chose from. In the case of Trials, those weapons roll with both Alacrity and One Quiet Moment in the Origin Trait column.

Each weapon manufacturer and activity with Origin Traits can be found in the table below:

Activity Traits Manufacturer Traits
Source Perk Source Perk
Strikes Vanguard's Vindication Hakke Hakke Breach Armaments
Nightfalls Stunning Recovery Omolon Omolon Field Dynamics
Crucible One Quiet Moment Suros Suros Synergy
Iron Banner Skulking Wolf Veist Veist Stinger
Trials of Osiris Alacrity PsiOps/Cabal Land Tank
Gambit Invader Tracker
Throne World Psychohack
