Destiny 2's Witch Queen expansion has brought with it an overhaul to every Void subclass. Dubbed Void 3.0, this overhaul brings the Aspects and Fragments system from Stasis to the Nightstalker, Sentinel, and Voidwalker subclasses.

Beyond the added layer of customization this system brings, Void itself saw some major changes. Three buff and debuff keywords give Void a signature identity that each subclass pulls from, allowing for new synergies and builds. We'll be covering what Void 3.0 is, how to unlock its various Aspects and Fragments, and give a breakdown of how each Aspect and Fragment works.
Updated July 15th, 2022, by Charles Burgar: Void has seen some small changes in Season of the Haunted, notably how Invisibility works in PvP. Beyond updating this guide with current information, we've also overhauled sections to make them easier to navigate and read. Void 3.0 keywords now have their own dedicated section, and we've updated the Fragments section with additional information.
What is Void 3.0?
Void 3.0 is an overhaul of how Destiny 2's Void subclasses are balanced. Instead of using the diamond subclass trees of old, all Void subclasses will now support the Aspects and Fragments system used with Beyond Light's Stasis subclasses. All Void subclasses—Nightstalker, Voidwalker, and Sentinel—have three class-specific Aspects and a handful of class-agnostic Fragments to play with. For clarity, these Aspects and Fragments are not the same as what's available on other classes; they have been tuned specifically for Void subclasses.
Is Void 3.0 A Buff Or Nerf?
Neither. Void 3.0 is a retuning of overarching class and element balance. In general, most Void builds have received a buff. Voidwalkers, in particular, have seen arguably the largest gains from this rework, capable of using Top Tree's overcharged grenades with Bottom Tree's Devour effect. Sentinels now have more methods of supplying overshields to their team, and Nightstalkers have new avenues for becoming invisible. With that said, some notable passives like Nightstalker's Heart of the Pack have been removed to make way for class-agnostic Fragments.

How To Unlock Void 3.0
All Destiny 2 players pre-Witch Queen will have all Void Aspects and Fragments unlocked upon logging in. There aren't any quests or bounties you'll need to complete to access these Fragments; they're all available from the start. If you're starting your Destiny 2 adventure with The Witch Queen expansion, you'll receive your Void Aspects and Fragments through the New Light tutorial experience.
How To Unlock Void Grenades, Aspects, And Fragments
Veteran Destiny 2 players won't have all Void grenades unlocked upon logging into the Witch Queen. Speak with Ikora at the Tower to purchase them. Each grenade costs 3,000 Glimmer.
New Light players will be given a curated loadout when starting Destiny 2, but they can expand their options by visiting Ikora in the Tower. She sells every Aspect, Fragment, and grenade tied to Void 3.0 for measly Glimmer costs. Once purchased, interact with the device beside Ikora to unlock your new Void options. If you're new to Destiny and need to farm Glimmer, check out our Glimmer guide.

Void Keywords Explained
Stasis set the foundation for an element's identity within Destiny 2. Most players know of the Slow, Freeze, and Shatter loop tied with Stasis, but what about the Void rework? Void 3.0 has a similar keyword system or "verbs" that dictate what your abilities are capable of. Let's quickly list what each keyword does, then we'll give an in-depth look at each of them.
Void 3.0 Buff Keywords
- Devour: Feast on the energy of your defeated foes. Final blows restore you to full health, grant grenade energy, and extend Devour.
- Invisibility: You vanish from sight and do not appear on radar. Performing offensive actions will end Invisibility.
- Void Overshield: You are armored with a protective barrier of Void Light. Reduces damage taken from combatants.
Void 3.0 Debuff Keywords
- Suppressed: The target is taken out of any active abilities and cannot activate any abilities or movement modes while Suppression persists. Afflicted combatants cannot fire their weapons.
- Volatile: The target is afflicted with unstable Void energy and will explode upon taking additional damage.
- Weaken: The target takes increased damage and has their movement speed slowed. Afflicted combatants have difficulty firing accurately.
Devour Explained
Devour is a character buff that lasts for ten seconds, granting 10% grenade energy and full HP recovery upon defeating a target. Defeating a target while Devour is active will extend its duration by a few seconds, with tougher enemies granting additional time. This effect works in PvE and PvP with no differences between each sandbox. It is the Voidwalker Warlock's specialty.
Arguably the strongest buff tied to Void 3.0, Devour is a staple of just about every PvE build and most Voidwalker PvP builds. The Echo of Hunger Fragment allows every Void class to access Devour, not just Warlocks. Kills grant all of your health and shields back, allowing you to play far more aggressively than what would otherwise be possible. You can also pair Devour's grenade energy with Demolitionist or Wellspring to quickly recharge your grenades upon defeating targets.

Invisibility Explained
Invisibility makes your Guardian harder to see, preventing enemies from shooting you in PvE while hiding you from enemy radar in PvP. Performing any offensive action—shooting, punching a target, throwing grenades, or using your Super—will remove this buff. With that said, there is a short grace period upon becoming invisible where actions won't decloak you, allowing you to throw a quick grenade or shoot a single bullet. Most Invisibility sources last for five seconds by default. It is the Nightstalker Hunter's specialty.
In PvE, becoming invisible will cause enemies to stop shooting you, drawing their attention to your allies instead. It serves as the Nightstalker's main defensive property and makes recovering your HP mid-gunfight far easier. Bear in mind that Invisibility is not invincibility; you can still take damage while invisible. Some enemies—notably Hive Shriekers—can see through Invisibility and shoot you. There also seems to be a slight delay before enemies drop aggro when you become invisible.
In PvP, Invisibility makes you much harder to see and hides you from enemy radar... mostly. While invisible, you will ping the enemy's radar once every five seconds. You cannot change this through any Aspects of Fragments. This ping lasts for around a second before you vanish from the radar again. As with PvE, offensive actions remove Invisibility.

Void Overshields Explained
Void Overshield acts as a second health bar, granting up to 45 extra HP while providing a small amount of damage resistance. In PvE, your Void Overshield grants 15% damage resistance against combatants, stacking multiplicatively with other DR sources. PvP overshields grant no damage resistance, only extra HP. It is the Sentinel Titan's specialty.
As the name suggests, not all overshields count as Void Overshields. Overshields obtained from mods or Stasis' Whisper of Rime Fragment do not grant bonus DR in PvE. Gaining another overshield type will override your Void Overshield, removing it entirely. The only Void Overshield that's stronger than 45 HP is Armor of Light, a 425 HP overshield obtained by using the Ward of Dawn Super.
Unlike the other two Void buffs, it is impossible for Hunters and Warlocks to get Void Overshields on their own, making this a buff that's truly unique to the Sentinel's kit. Most sources of Void Overshield involve using your melee or class ability. The Bastion Aspect makes it incredibly easy to gain overshields on command by using your Barricade.

Suppression Explained
Suppression is a debuff that disables ability usage for six seconds. PvE enemies are also blinded while suppressed, preventing them from attacking you. In PvP, Guardians are unable to throw grenades, use powered melee attacks, activate their class ability, Super, or jump ability while suppressed. Suppression also disables any active abilities, notably Supers on Lucent Hive and Guardians. All classes can utilize Suppression.
Out of the three Void debuffs, Suppression is the rarest of the bunch. Most players will need to use Suppressor Grenades to apply this debuff, although Shadowshot and Shield Charge can inflict Suppression as well. Overall, this is an incredibly powerful effect that can swing entire firefights in your favor.
Return to Quick Links
Volatile Explained
Volatile covers the target in Void particles, causing them to explode if they take enough damage. Enemies in PvE explode with minimal damage required, while Guardians in the Crucible explode after they take around 200 damage. The explosion itself is strong enough to kill most rank and file enemies in PvE. All classes can utilize the Volatile debuff, although Sentinel Titans can further specialize by using a certain Aspect.
Sentinel Titans can rapidly inflict Volatile to targets through the Controlled Demolition Aspect, causing their abilities and Volatile explosions to inflict Volatile. This can lead to explosive chain reactions in PvE content. All classes can gain access to Volatile through Echo of Instability, granting Void weapons Volatile Rounds for a short duration upon landing a grenade final blow. Enemies can have Volatile inflicted upon them multiple times in a row, increasing your overall single-target DPS.
Return to Quick Links
Weaken Explained
Weaken increases the damage enemies take by 15% in PvE and 7.5% in PvP. Enemies inflicted with Weaken in PvE are also blinded for the duration, preventing them from attacking you. Similar to weapon buffs, you can only have one damage-increasing debuff on a target at a time—Weaken adhering to this rule. All classes can inflict Weaken, although this debuff is the specialty of the Nightstalker Hunter.
Damage-enhancing debuffs are incredibly useful in PvE content. Most consider some form of Weaken mandatory for endgame raids and GM Nightfalls. Some sources of Weaken are stronger than others, applying a 30% damage increase to the target. You cannot stack a 30% and 15% Weaken on a target; the game will use the strongest debuff available when calculating damage.
The following sources provide a 30% Weaken effect:
- Shadowshot (Nightstalker Super)
- Divinity (Exotic Trace Rifle)
- Tractor Cannon (Exotic Shotgun)
- Felwinter's Helm (Warlock Exotic)

Hunter Void Aspects
Trapper's Ambush | (1 Fragment Slot) Activate Quickfall to spend your melee charge and dive to the ground, creating a large smoke cloud on impact which then dissipates. Targets caught in the cloud are Weakened, and allies and made Invisible. Your Smoke Bomb makes nearby allies Invisible when it attaches to nearby surfaces or targets. |
Vanishing Step | (2 Fragment Slots) Dodging makes you Invisible. |
Stylish Executioner | (2 Fragment Slots) Defeating a Weakened, Suppressed, or Volatile target grants Invisibility and Truesight. After performing a Stylish Execution, your next melee attack while invisible weakens targets. |
Trapper's Ambush gives the Nightstalker subclass an aerial descent tool that's similar to the Revenant's Shatterdive Aspect. Unlike Shatterdive, Quickfall consumes your melee charge and has no interaction with Stasis crystals. Your melee ability grants Invisibility in addition to Weakening targets. Essentially, you can now make your allies invisible and have an easier way of doing so with Quickfall.
Vanishing Step works just like it did before Void 3.0, turning you Invisible for a short duration upon dodging. The animation for the dodge has changed in The Witch Queen, covering a further distance than your typical Hunter Dodge animation. This animation is the same for both dodge types, making Marksman's Dodge more appealing for PvP builds.
Stylish Executioner replaces the Flawless Execution passive that Middle Tree Nightstalker had. Instead of needing a crouched headshot kill, you just need to defeat an enemy who's Volatile, Suppressed, or Weakened. Fortunately, just about everything in the Nightstalker's kit weakens targets, making this Aspect extremely easy to proc. The Invisibility buff lasts for seven seconds, and it has a two-second cooldown before it can trigger again. The melee Weaken applies to uncharged melee hits and debuffs the target by 15%.

Titan Void Aspects
Controlled Demolition | (2 Fragment Slots) Hitting a target with a Void ability or Volatile detonation will make them Volatile. |
Bastion | (1 Fragment Slot) Casting Barricade generates Void Overshield for yourself and nearby allies. Those bunkering behind the shield will regenerate Void Overshield over time and extend the overshield's duration. Increases the cooldown of your Barricade. |
Offensive Bulwark | (2 Fragment Slots) While you have Void Overshield or are inside the Ward of Dawn, grenades charge significantly faster and you have increased melee damage. You also gain an additional shield throw for your Sentinel Shield Super. |
Controlled Demolition is what made Middle Tree Sentinel so great. Whenever you hit a target with your Void abilities (including volatile explosions), they'll become Volatile. This can lead to some powerful chain reactions against tightly-packed groups of enemies. Consider using Vortex Grenades with this Aspect to group enemies together into one ball of continuous explosions.
Bastion buffs your Barricades to give Void Overshields while standing behind them. The overshield builds at a steady rate while behind your Barricade and grants 15% damage resistance while active (none in PvP). Bear in mind that this Aspect increases your Barricade's cooldown to 82 seconds at T3 Resilience, the same base cooldown as a Warlock Rift. This cooldown applies to both Rally and Towering Barricade in all activities.
Offensive Bulwark gives you an effect similar to Grenadier or the Hallowfire Heart Exotic while you have a Void Overshield active, causing your grenades to recharge much more quickly. You also deal more melee damage while an overshield is active. Sentinel Shield gets a second melee charge while this Aspect is equipped, making it much easier to extend the duration of your Super when paired with Doomfang Pauldrons.

Warlock Void Aspects
Chaos Accelerant | (1 Fragment Slot) Hold down the grenade button to overcharge your Vortex, Axiom Bolt, Scatter, or Magnetic Grenade. Magnetic grenades overcharge into Handheld Supernova. |
Feed the Void | (2 Fragment Slots) Void ability kills grant Devour. |
Child of the Old Gods | (2 Fragment Slots) Casting your Rift ability summons a Void Soul that tethers nearby targets. Tethered enemies are Weakened by 15%. Using Empowered Rifts will cause Void Soul damage to restore HP. Healing Rifts cause the Void Soul to restore grenade and melee energy instead. |
Chaos Accelerant returns from Top Tree Voidwalker, this time including Handheld Supernova from Middle Tree Voidwalker. Only the grenades listed have an overcharged effect; using any non-listed grenade will now allow you to overcharge the grenade. Overcharged grenades typically enhance the qualities of their base grenade and deal more damage. Vortex grenades cover a wider area, Axiom and Scatter grenades track more aggressively, and Magnetic grenades turn into a Shotgun blast that deals immense damage.
Feed the Void grants a buff called Devour when your Void abilities kill someone. Devour grants health and shields for each kill you land, extending Devour's timer. The tougher the enemy was, the more time will be added. Additionally, your grenades recharge faster while Devour is active.
Child of the Old Gods has a lot going on, so let's break it down:
- Casting your Rift summons a Void Soul. This orb will attach to whoever you're fighting, creating a miniature version of the Nightstalker's Shadowshot Super.
- Enemies tethered are Weakened, taking 15% more damage from all sources.
- If you have a Healing Rift, Void Soul's damage will grant grenade and melee energy.
- If you have an Empowering Rift, Void Soul's damage will heal you.
In essence, casting your Rift spawns a pocket tether that can restore HP or ability energy. This is an absurdly powerful Aspect when facing groups of enemies. The Void Soul lasts for 20 seconds after casting your Rift and will follow you until it attaches to a group of enemies. The orb will tether whichever enemies you're currently damaging.

All Void Fragments
This section showcases how each Void Fragment works. If you're looking for which Fragments are the best, check out our Void Fragment tier list.
Fragments are class-agnostic buffs that slot into your Aspects. Each Aspect has a number of Fragment slots it can equip. Some Fragments also come with stat alterations that increase or decrease a stat by one tier. Each Fragment can be found below.
Echo Of Expulsion
Echo of Expulsion: Void ability kills cause enemies to explode. +10 Intellect.
Echo of Expulsion detonates enemy corpses when you land a Void ability kill. The damage is comparable to a Volatile explosion and has a similar blast radius. Void grenades, powered melee abilities, Supers, and Volatile explosions can all activate Echo of Expulsion. This Fragment works in PvE and PvP.
Echo Of Provision
Echo of Provision: Damaging enemies with grenades grants melee energy. -10 Strength.
Most grenades grant around 10% melee energy upon damaging a target, persistent grenades granting 5% per damage tick instead. This Fragment works best with Vortex, Void Wall, and Spike Grenades since they can damage a target multiple times during their lifespan. This Fragment works in PvE and PvP.
Echo Of Exchange
Echo of Exchange: Melee final blows grant grenade energy.
Melee kills of all types will grant around 10% grenade energy. Uncharged melees, charged melees, and even Glaive melee kills will activate Echo of Exchange. This Fragment works in PvE and PvP.
Echo Of Remnants
Echo of Remnants: Your lingering grenade effects (Vortex, Void Wall, Void Spike, and Axiom Bolt) have increased duration.
All lingering grenades last 50% longer while Echo of Remnants is equipped. This bonus stacks additively with Chaos Accelerant from Voidwalker, allowing your grenades to last nearly twice as long with both effects active. Echo of Remnants works on Vortex Grenades, Void Wall Grenades, Void Spikes, and Axiom Bolts.
Echo Of Reprisal
Echo of Reprisal: Final blows while surrounded by combatants grant Super energy.
While three or more enemies are within close proximity, defeating any combatant will grant an additional 1% Super energy. This effect stacks with other Super-generating sources like Thresh. Echo of Reprisal only works in PvE content.
Echo Of Undermining
Echo of Undermining: Void grenades Weaken enemies. -20 Discipline.
All Void grenades apply a 15% Weaken effect (7.5% in PvP) when they damage a target. The Weaken debuff is applied to all enemies damaged by the grenade. Persistent grenades will reapply the Weaken debuff if the target stays in the grenade's area of effect, refreshing the debuff's duration. Echo of Undermining works in PvE and PvP.
Echo Of Persistence
Echo of Persistence: Void buffs applied to you (Invisibility, Overshield, and Devour) have increased duration. -10 to the stat that governs your class ability cooldown.
Echo of Persistence extends the duration of all Void buffs, although the duration increase isn't static amongst each buff. Unlike other Fragments, the stat penalty is towards your class ability stat. Hunters get reduced Mobility, Titans get reduced Resilience, and Warlocks get reduced Recovery.
The duration increases are as follows:
- Invisibility: Increases the duration of all Invisibility effects by two seconds.
- Devour: Extends the duration of Devour by 50%.
- Kills grant the same duration extension with this Fragment equipped.
- Overshield: Extends the duration of your Void Overshield by 50%.
Echo Of Leeching
Echo of Leeching: Melee final blows start health regeneration for you and nearby allies. +10 Resilience.
Defeating a target with your melee—both uncharged and charged attacks—will immediately begin health regeneration for you and nearby allies. This Fragment's health regeneration is affected by your Recovery stat. Echo of Leeching works in PvE and PvP.
Echo Of Domineering
Echo of Domineering: After suppressing a target, gain greatly increased Mobility for a short duration and your equipped weapon is reloaded from reserves. +10 Discipline.
Inflicting Suppression through your weapons or abilities will reload your weapon from reserves and grant +50 Mobility for the next ten seconds. You cannot reactivate Echo of Domineering while it's active. This Fragment works in PvE and PvP.
Echo Of Dilation
Echo of Dilation: While crouched, you sneak faster and gain enhanced radar resolution. +10 Mobility and Intellect.
Echo of Dilation sets your crouch movement speed to 3.85 meters per second, the same as a Guardian with 100 Mobility. This gives you the fastest crouch movement speed in the game. While crouched or sliding, you also gain a more accurate radar that can track targets from more precise angles. By default, your radar has eight different "slices" it can track enemy targets from. With this Fragment, that number increases to 12.
Echo Of Instability
Echo of Instability: Defeating targets with grenades grants Volatile Rounds to your Void weapons. +10 Strength.
Landing a grenade kill will cause all Void weapons to fire Volatile Rounds for the next ten seconds, inflicting the Volatile debuff with each bullet fired. All Void weapons benefit from this buff, most notably SMGs. Rapid-fire weapons perform the best with this Fragment. Echo of Instability works in PvE and PvP, although Volatile activates far less often inside the Crucible.
Echo Of Harvest
Echo of Harvest: Defeating weakened targets with precision final blows will create an Orb of Power. -10 Intellect.
Any target afflicted with the Weaken debuff will drop an Orb of Power if you land a precision final blow. The Orb of Power is equal to a Siphon mod in terms of Super energy gained. This Fragment has a lengthy cooldown before it can activate again. Echo of Harvest works in PvE and PvP.
Echo Of Obscurity
Echo of Obscurity: Finisher final blows grant Invisibility. +10 Recovery.
Finishing a target in PvE will grant Invisibility for the next five seconds, giving you time to recover your health or reposition. The duration of this Fragment can be increased to seven seconds through the Echo of Persistence Fragment. Obscurity is also affected by Graviton Forfeit, a Hunter Exotic. Since this Fragment is reliant on Finishers, Echo of Obscurity only works in PvE environments.
Echo Of Starvation
Echo of Starvation: Picking up an Orb of Power grants Devour. +10 Recovery.
You cannot grab Orbs of Power while your Super is full. Consider using a weapon with Explosive Light to make full use of this Fragment.
All Orbs of Power you grab will grant five seconds of Devour. You can extend this effect by killing enemies or grabbing additional Orbs. Echo of Persistence will extend the duration of Devour to ten second per Orb and grant a maximum duration of 15 seconds, the same as with all other Devour sources. Echo of Starvation works in PvE and PvP.
