Glory and Valor ranks are a unique progression system tied to Destiny 2's Crucible mode. Based on the game type you're playing, you will accumulate points towards a ranking system that grants rewards as you reach higher subdivisions and new divisions.

Leveling your Valor rank is a great way to earn Masterwork materials, and it's required to complete certain Seasonal Challenges. Glory ranks show how skilled you are in Competitive Crucible and grant Powerful Gear for each subdivision and major division you reach. If you're interested in leveling quickly or enjoy Destiny 2's PvP component, you'll want to increase both of these ranks.

Updated October 11th, 2022, by Charles Burgar: Shaxx has new offerings in Season of the Plunder, including new cosmetic goods and the fantastic Out of Bounds SMG. We've updated this list to include current Crucible drops and rank-up rewards. We also rewrote a few sections for clarity on how the Valor and Glory ranking systems work.

Valor And Glory Ranks

Before we discuss the best ways to increase your Valor and Glory ranks, it's important to understand the progression differences between the two.

Valor Ranks

Valor ranks (called "Crucible Ranks" in-game) are tied to non-competitive Crucible game types such as Control, Rumble, and rotating playlists. Players can only gain Valor ranks; losses do not reduce your Valor points. Valor ranks and their point progression are listed below.

Rank Valor Requirement Rank-Up Requirement
Guardian I 0 50
Guardian II 50 75
Guardian III 125 125
Brave I 250 250
Brave II 500 450
Brave III 950 600
Heroic I 1,550 375
Heroic II 1,925 600
Heroic III 2,525 825
Fabled I 3,350 525
Fabled II 3,875 775
Fabled III 4,650 1,050
Mythic I 5,700 750
Mythic II 6,450 1,075
Mythic III 7,525 1,475
Legend 9,000 1,000

Glory Ranks

Glory ranks are tied to competitive Crucible game types, which is currently only the Survival playlist. Trials of Osiris is not in the Glory playlist. Winning these matches will grant Glory while losing matches will reduce your Glory.

It is possible to derank in subdivisions (Brave II to Brave I, for example) and divisions past Fabled (Mythic to Fabled). If you are at or below Fabled, you cannot lose your main division rank. Once you reach Mythic, this safety net is removed, meaning you can drop from Mythic to Fabled if you repeatedly lose.

Below are the Glory rank tiers and requirements:

Rank Glory Requirement Rank-Up Requirement
Guardian I 0 40
Guardian II 40 70
Guardian III 110 90
Brave I 200 170
Brave II 370 295
Brave III 665 385
Heroic I 1,050 210
Heroic II 1,260 365
Heroic III 1,625 475
Fabled I 2,100 280
Fabled II 2,380 490
Fabled III 2,870 630
Mythic I 3,500 380
Mythic II 3,880 665
Mythic III 4,545 905

How To Earn Valor

Bounties might not grant Valor anymore, but Bungie overhauled the Win Streak system into what's called an Activity Streak. Even if you aren't very good at PvP, ranking up your Valor shouldn't be as much of a slog now.

Earn Valor Activity Streaks

Activity Streaks are when you play consecutive Valor playlist Crucible games. The game type in question can change from game to game—playing a Control and a Rumble match back-to-back will contribute to your streak, for example—but they must be consecutive. Activity Streaks will grant increased Valor until you reach five or more consecutive matches played, at which point their Valor bonus will cap out.

The following conditions will reduce your Activity Streak by one or more:

  • Visit a destination.
    • Exclusions include the Tower, H.E.L.M, and returning to orbit.
  • Leave a Crucible game currently in progress.
  • Play any other activity.
    • This completely resets your current Activity Streak.

Exiting Destiny 2 does not remove your streak.

Play Crucible During Double Valor Weeks

Double Valor weeks always occur when Iron Banner is active.

Bungie will periodically grant double Valor earnings during certain weeks. Both match completions and Activity Streaks are impacted. These bonus Valor weeks aren't listed on a content calendar, so it's best to keep your eyes out for a message on the "Next Week in Destiny" post when you reach the login screen. If a double Valor week is active, you'll get a notification stating Valor rates are increased when you enter orbit for the first time that week. A modifier should also appear when selecting any PvP playlist that denotes the increased rep gains.

How To Earn Glory

Glory is a much tougher system to gain levels in, as this is the only ranking system in Destiny 2 that can derank you. We'll cover every way you can increase your Glory below.

Earn Glory Win Streaks

Instead of an Activity Streak system, Glory matches use what's called a Win Streak. For each Glory match you win, your next win in the Glory playlist will grant additional Glory. This streak will increase for each win until you reach five consecutive wins, at which point the bonus will cap out. Losing a match will drop your Glory Win Streak by two. Even if you have a high Win Streak when you lose a game, your Glory rank will still decrease.

The Glory Win Streak bonus is linear, regardless of what rank you are. However, the ELO/skill catch-up mechanic for Glory is still present (explained below).

Below are the values for winning a game while a Glory Win Streak is active.

All Rank Divisions

  • Win One: +20 Glory
  • Win Two: +40 Glory
  • Win Three: +60 Glory
  • Win Four: +80 Glory
  • Win Five: +100 Glory

These values can be altered based on your skill level. Competitive PvP has a skill bracket catch-up mechanic where the game will increase your Glory earnings if you're fighting enemies well below your skill level. This bonus will apply until you reach a Glory rank indicative of your skill level.

Complete Three Glory Matches Each Week

If you complete three Glory matches in a single week, you will gain a boost to your Glory earnings—even if you lose all three games. The reward bonuses are as follows:

  • Guardian: +160 Glory
  • Brave: +160 Glory
  • Heroic: +120 Glory
  • Fabled: +80 Glory
  • Mythic: +0 Glory
  • Legend: -80 Glory

Legend is not a typo; you lose points every week regardless of how many games you played. Failing to play Glory matches each week will also cause your Glory rank to decay slowly, regardless of your rank. This becomes more noticeable when you reach Fabled, Mythic, and Legend. For everything under Mythic rank, playing at least three Glory games each week will guarantee progress towards a rank-up.

Valor And Glory Rewards

PvP players have a means of earning Masterwork materials just by playing their favorite playlist. You can unlock upgrade materials, cosmetic rewards, and even a ritual weapon introduced that season by increasing your Valor rank.

Glory Rewards

Glory ranks will grant Powerful Gear when you increase your rank. These Powerful Gear drops are +1, making Glory playlists a great way to level up at the start of a season.

Beyond that, Glory ranks provide no rewards. Shaxx's inventory only correlates with Valor ranks. Increasing your Glory rank will only grant:

  1. +1 Powerful Gear on rank-ups
  2. Progress towards the Unbroken title

Unless you care about increasing your account's skill/ELO ratings on third-party websites, there aren't many reasons to play Competitive Crucible currently.

Valor Rewards

Increasing Valor ranks will grant an impressive number of rewards. Those that stick to the Crucible will find themselves with plenty of Masterwork materials and Exotic gear.

Increasing your Valor ranks will grant the following:

These rewards are account-bound.

Initial Reward Post-Reset Reward
Rank-Ups x1 Legendary Engram (subranks count) x1 Legendary Engram (subranks count)
Division Rank-Ups x1 Prime Engram None
Rank 4 x3 Enhancement Cores x3 Enhancement Cores
Rank 7 Scarlet Semblance Shader x3 Enhancement Cores
Rank 10 x2 Enhancement Prisms x2 Enhancement Prisms
Rank 13 Redjack Projection x2 Enhancement Prisms
Rank 16 Cry Mutiny (Grenade Launcher) Intended Overthrow Ornament
x2 Enhancement Prisms
Rank 16 Completed x1 Ascendant Shard x1 Exotic Engram

For clarity, nearly every rank-up reward is tied to increasing your division rank in Valor PvP. For example, Rank 4 is the same as Brave I, Rank 7 is Heroic I, et cetera. Whenever a new season begins, your rank-up rewards will be reset as if you haven't reset your Valor. You'll be able to earn another Ascendant Shard, seasonal Shaders, and seasonal Emblems.
