The first time you encounter Daimyo Hermitaur is during the Uninvited Guest quest, which is the first quest in the expansion. While this giant crab may not be the most difficult monster to beat, it can easily overwhelm you with its flurry of hard-hitting attacks if you don’t have the proper knowledge and gear for this fight.

Daimyo Hermitaur - Strengths and Weaknesses

Daimyo Hermitaur is a giant crab-like monster with a thick shell, and you will have to crack open that shell to expose the weaker points. As such, you must focus on dealing damage from the front at all times since the skull is the weakest part of its body. On the other hand, its claws are pretty strong - so you wouldn’t get much out of hitting them when it tries to protect its face from your attacks. In a similar vein, its back and legs are also pretty strong - so focusing your efforts on the skull is always the best option.

The Daimyo Hermitaur is a water-based creature, and like most creatures in this category - it's weak to Thunder and Fire elements. Status effects like water and dragon aren’t especially useful in this fight, so you should focus on acquiring the proper gear for the job to ensure a smooth battle.

  • Weak Points - Head
  • Resistant Points - Claws Hind Legs, Torso
  • Elemental/Ailment Weakness - Fire, Thunder
  • Elemental/Ailment Resistance - Water, Dragon
  • Best Weapon Damage - Bludgeoning Damage

Best Equipment To Fight Daimyo Hermitaur

Close up of Daimyo Hermitaur In Monster Hunter: Rise Sunbreak

Since you will need to crack open the monster’s skull for exposing its weaker parts, a blunt weapon is recommended for the fight. Weapons such as greatswords, hammers, and lances are recommended for this fight, although you can use other weapons such as dual blades if you have some sort of elemental damage on them. A shield can also prove particularly effective against the crab’s swipes and slashes. Weapons like Despot Blackstorm or Great Demon Rod, or anything suitable from the Zinorge, Tobi Gadachi, or Rajang arsenal should be a choice for the fight.

As for the armor, it’s recommended that you choose an armor set that helps in minimizing melee damage. A great option would be the Basarios armor set, which is great for increasing your defense against the monster which in turn should help you to play more aggressively. Another recommended option for an armor set is the Pukei-Pukei armor set, which offers good resistance against water attacks (like the water beam Daimyo Hermitaur does).

  • Weapons - Despote Blackstorm, Great Demon Rod
  • Armor - Basarios X, Pukei-Pukei X

Daimyo Hermitaur - Fight Breakdown And Moves

A fight with Daimyo Hermitaur In Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak

The Daimyo Hermitaur has a plethora of different moves at its disposal, but most of them are pretty easy to dodge once you know what you are up against. The monster will use its claws to hit you at close range, and these attacks can range from a simple swipe of a single claw to a multi-hit attack from both claws. The best strategy is to back off to evade these attacks and start striking again once there’s an opening. It's also important to get the hang of these moves since you will be facing these attacks for most of the fight.

The monster will also spew a water beam at you while it dashes sideways, so dodge or jump through the water beam to avoid damage. The Daimyo Hermitaur can also burrow into the ground which will be followed up by a 3-hit spike attack before it comes back to the surface, and the best strategy to avoid this attack is to be on the move. Additionally, this giant crab can also slam its claws into the ground or perform a ground pound with its body, and the only way of avoiding these two attacks is to step back or use your Wirebug to make a last-ditch escape.

Last but not the least, the Daimyo Hermitaur may also use its claws to guard its skull, but you can use a Sonic Bomb to break its defenses and start stomping him with your attacks. The sheer number of moves can sound overwhelming at first, but in reality - they are very clearly telegraphed - so you shouldn’t have a lot of trouble differentiating between these attacks.
