Elden Ring is just as vast and impressive as we were promised. With sprawling grasslands, continental swamps, and hellscapes that reach into the horizon, one could spend hundreds of hours simply exploring the overworld and still not see everything this title has to offer. As mind-blowing as the scale of this game is, this can mean that it can be very hard to come across the most powerful items in the game. In fact, if you don't know where to look, it is likely you would never find them in the first place!

To placate the completionist in you, we have a collection of guides that can take you where you need to go in Elden Ring. This guide is dedicated to archiving and detailing where to find the most powerful Spirit Ashes in the game.

What Are Spirit Ashes?

If you don't already know, Spirit Ashes allow the player to summon NPCs to aid them in combat. There are some important things to know when using Spirit Ashes. The first is that they can only be summoned when the small tombstone icon is visible in the bottom left of the screen. Next is that Spirit Ashes can only be used when the player is alone in their world, meaning no Gold-Finger summons are allowed while Ashes are in use. Finally, Ashes consume FP, and they will fail if your player does not have enough points in the mana bar.

Lhutel The Headless

Lhutel the Headless is a great companion if you need something dead. That may seem like the obvious use for any spirit you summon, but Lhutel has a special way of doing it. This spirit wields a spear that causes the Instant Death status effect to build up in foes. Once this meter fills, the enemy's health bar is instantly set to zero.

While this may seem very overpowered, it seems that the Instant Death Effect does not currently affect enemies or bosses in the game. This effect can only be useful against human-like NPCs. Lhutel costs 104 FP to summon.

Lhutel The Headless Location

Lhutel's Ashes can be found in the Tombsworn Catacombs. This dungeon is located directly south of the Church of Pilgrimage and can be found on the side of a cliff just behind some pillars. These ashes are a reward for defeating the boss of the dungeon, the Cemetery Shade.

This boss does not have a huge amount of health, but he does start the fight with skeletons already in the room. As such, it is highly recommended that you summon another player to help you, or use Spirit Ashes such as the Wolf Pack or Soldier Ashes to draw the skeletons away from the fight.

Black Knife Tiche

Black Knife Tiche is difficult to get. In order to find the location of her Ashes, you must first complete the questline of Ranni the Witch. This will lead you to the boss fight where Tiche's Ashes are.

Black Knife Tiche is a great companion to call in against single, fast-moving combatants like the Bloodhound Knight, or the Lion Guardian. While Tiche cannot perform backstabs on enemies, her movement speed is unparalleled. If you are a fan of Dark Souls 3, her movements are similar to that of the Phantom Dancer. She will close in quickly for some rapid strikes, and then jump an impossibly long distance in a circle around the foe to get behind them. Tiche costs 132 FP to conjure.

Black Knife Tiche Location

Black Knife Tiche's Ashes are the reward for defeating the Black Knife Ring Leader boss. This boss can be found in the Ringleader's Evergaol, which is located in the Ainsel River Well. The closest Site of Grace is called Astel, Naturalborn of the Void. This Site of Grace is unlocked after beating the boss of the same name, which is a requirement of Ranni's quest.

Redmane Knight Ogha

Ogha is a bit of a tricky Spirit to use. He is a ranged NPC who will switch to melee if an enemy gets too close.

Ogha's weapon of choice is a great bow and bow sorceries. He acts differently than most Spirit Ashes in a number of ways. Firstly, he does not follow the player. Instead, he will patrol along a set path where he is summoned. Additionally, he will attack any enemy on sight, whereas most other Ashes will wait to engage enemies until they are hostile towards the player. He costs 106 FP to summon.

Redmane Knight Ogha Location

These legendary Ashes can be collected in the Caelid region in the War-Dead Catacombs. This dungeon can be found in the large desert area northeast of the Site of Grace located in the Starscourge Radahn boss room. These Ashes are a reward for defeating the Putrid Tree Spirit boss.

This boss is weak to Fire and the Frost Status Effect. At half health, this boss will cause a Scarlet Rot explosion. The best way to stay safe from this attack is to find a place on the floor with no flame visual and stand still in that spot.

Mimic Tear

Sometimes, when fighting a Souls boss, you will find yourself thinking, "if only I could do just a bit more damage". The Mimic Tear Spirit Ashes essentially double your potential damage output. This is because the Ashes summon an exact copy of your player to fight by your side. This copy of you will have your same weapons, items, armor, etc. equipped. It prioritizes the use of the weapon in the right-hand slot.

However, beware of a few quirks associated with these Ashes. First, remember that these Ashes consume 660 HP rater than FP. Also, the summoned copy will try and use items they do not have the required stats for if left equipped.

Mimic Tear Location

These ashes are located in the Night's Sacred Ground area in Nokron, Eternal City. It appears on the Siofra Well map, though it is not accessible from here. Instead, travel to the Site of Grace called Ancestral Woods. From here, drop down the ruins to get to the appropriate area.

Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff

Kristoff is who you need to call if you are in need of a flashy ally. Kristoff uses a spear and shield to combat foes, making him an excellent tank. He can also call powerful thunderbolts onto foes. This makes him a great companion to take on the many dragons that wander the wastes of Elden Ring. This Spirit requires 106 FP to summon.

Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff Location

These Spirit Ashes are found in the Sainted Hero's Grave dungeon. This dungeon is located on the Altus Plateau directly north of the Stormcaller Church in Limgrave. The Ashes are dropped by the boss of this dungeon, the Ancient Hero of Zamor. It is also recommended that you bring two stonesword keys into this dungeon to collect all the loot.

Cleanrot Knight Finlay

Cleanrot Knight Finlay offers a nice mix of short and medium ranged combat. Finlay wields a large scythe that offers tremendous reach, as well as acting as a catalyst for spells. On top of using the scythe in combat, Finlay can cast sorceries from the scythe. This Spirit costs 127 FP to summon.

Cleanrot Knight Finlay Location

In order to get to Finlay's Ashes, you must first defeat Loretta, Knight of Haligtree. After defeating her, you must make your way to the Elphael, Brace of Haligtree fortress. Explore this castle until you find the Prayer Room Site of Grace. From here, take the stairs down until you find two guards. Nearby you should see a railing that faces a gazebo. Jump over the railing, and look for a room next to the gazebo. There is a chest in the room that contains these Ashes.
