Moreover, Elden Ring includes several unique weapons that offer powerful abilities and bonuses, aiding you in your journey across the Lands Between. One of these weapons is the Bloodhound’s Fang, a curved blade that can only be obtained by defeating a challenging early-game boss.

Updated April 5, 2022: We've updated this article to include a helpful video that shows you exactly where you need to go to get the Bloodhound’s Fang.

Where To Find The Bloodhound’s Fang

The Bloodhound’s Fang can be found in the south of the game’s starting area, Limgrave, and North of the Bridge Of Sacrifice that leads to the Weeping Peninsula. The exact location where you will find the greatsword is pictured above and is named the Forlorn Hound Evergaol.

Simply finding this location will not be enough to obtain the Bloodhound’s Fang, however, you will instead need to defeat the enemy trapped inside the Forlorn Hound Evergaol. To begin this fight, head to the center of the Evergaol and choose the interact option. From here you will be transported to what seems to be an alternate version of the Lands Between and will be able to fight the Bloodhound Knight Darriwil.

Fighting The Bloodhound Knight Darriwil

Bloodhound Knight Darriwil is a decidedly tough enemy to fight in the early game, as are all the bosses located in Limgrave’s Evergaols. However, with some key tips, you can learn his patterns and get your hands on one of Elden Ring’s best-curved greatswords.

Firstly, as you enter the fight, the Bloodhound Knight will take some time to materialise. In this time you can lock onto him and get a couple of light attacks, or one heavy attack, in before he can respond.

Shields are somewhat futile devices against the Bloodhound Knight Darriwil, as he is extremely fast and will move behind you if you are not on your toes. Instead, focus on dodging his attacks, learning the timings to roll through his rapid strikes.

With that in mind, try two-handing your weapon. While this will decrease the speed of your attacks, it will significantly increase the damage you deal. For a more in-depth look at this challenging early-game boss fight, check out our guide on How To Defeat The Bloodhound Knight Darriwil

Using The Bloodhound’s Fang

The Bloodhound’s Fang is undoubtedly one of the most powerful weapons you can find in the early areas of Elden Ring. However, you may not be able to wield it straight from spawn. To use this weapon you will need 18 strength and 17 dexterity.

One of the best aspects of this greatsword is its scaling. The weapon features D scaling in strength and C in dexterity. This means that the higher you have these two stats, the more damage the weapon will do. Another unique feature of this blade is its weapon art, named Bloodhound’s Finesse. When using this ability your character will perform a powerful aerial slice that often has the strength to stagger enemies and even bosses.

The real benefit of the Bloodhound’s Fang, however, is its huge bleed damage. Bleed is a damage type that builds up after every hit. Once your enemies' bleed meter is filled, they will take a massive hit of damage. Most enemies in Elden Ring are currently weak to bleed, so having it on any weapon is a real bonus.

Finally, the Bloodhound’s Fang is a unique weapon. So like every unique weapon in Elden Ring, it requires Somber Smithing Stones to upgrade. These are a rarer version of the game’s standard upgrade material.
