Boasting an impressive array of attacks and ways to ruin your day, Godrick, lord of Stormveil Castle has the potential to be an early roadblock on your quest to become Elden Lord. Powerful area of effect attacks and a second phase that brings fire into the mix, you will need to be patient and observe his attacks if you wish to succeed.

Godrick’s main weakness is his speed, slower than most mid and late-game bosses, this allows you to learn and memorise his attack. For a melee build, you will want to bait out his roll attack, which provides you with ample time to strike. For a ranged battle, learn the precise moments to press your advantage, utilising poison if possible. Ultimately, if you are struggling you can bring both spirit summons and the NPC, Nepheli Loux, to your aid.

Strategies

Melee Strategy

The key tactic for taking on Godrick with Melee build is to wait out the attacks that provide you with an opening and then counter to deal heavy damage. This can be done by carefully learning each of his moves and capitalizing on his roll attack, which has a long recovery period.

Importantly, as with every Elden Ring boss, make sure your equip load is either light or medium, allowing you to roll through his attacks with the right timing. Godrick uses delayed attacks to punish panic rolling, so do not roll too early.

Once Godrick is down to half health, he will fuse with the dragon at the side of the boss arena. During this phase, Godrick can utlilise fire to deal massive damage. Apart from his fire stream, many of his attacks here are the same but with added AOE and fire damage. Once again, be patient and learn the timings.

If you are struggling to defeat Godrick alone, use your spirit summons or Nepheli Loux, who can be summoned from outside the boss arena.

Ranged Strategy

Fighting Godrick with a ranged build is rather similar to melee, however, your ability to deal damage at a distance is a huge advantage.

Once again, capitalize on his roll attack, hitting him several times with spells or arrows once his animation is finished. If possible use poison arrows or the spell named Poison Mist, he is weak to this status effect. Summons are especially useful if you are a ranged build, summon them to distract him while you pick him off at a distance.
