Quick Links

Bell Bearing Hunters in Elden Ring are recurring Field Bosses that appear in four different areas of the game. These hunters only appear at night, and when there is no NPC present in the area. To do this, you will have to change the time of day, then rest again at a nearby Site of Grace in order to spawn the boss.

Strategies

There are two main strategies for this fight:

Melee Strategy

For the melee strategy, the best way to fight the boss would be to stay close to the boss at all times. Moving too far away will cause the boss to switch and perform ranged attacks, which are deadly because of their high damage. The boss's attacks are slow, allowing you to dodge to the side the attack is coming from pretty easily. This allows you to get a few counters in before getting ready to dodge another attack.

As the boss is weak against Lightning, it would be a good idea to make use of weapons that you can put Lightning Grease on.

The boss is also susceptible to Hemorrhage and Scarlet Rot. This allows you to use Rotten Breath, Rot Grease, or Decaying Ekzykes to inflict the boss with Scarlet Rot, which reduces health gradually. If you are using a Bleed Katana or Katars, you can attack multiple times to build up the bleed effect, eventually causing Hemorrhage.

You can also use Torrent, your steed, to move around the area and evade most of the boss's attacks. Positioning behind him is made much easier on Torrent, giving you time to attack and get out, and therefore avoiding taking damage.

Ranged Strategy

For the ranged strategy, your best option is to use Torrent. Playing as a ranged class will result in the boss using his ranged attacks more often. They're harder to dodge than his melee attacks, so try not to use Sorceries that have long cast times — the Hunter is quite aggressive, and can interrupt your cast with a shield slam. Swift Glintstone Shard and Rock Sling are exceptional choices, and you can cast them quickly to rack up serious damage. You can spam Swift Glintstone Shard while riding Torrent, and this way you'll avoid any attacks the boss throws at you.

If you are running a Faith build, try using any Lightning spells you have. As these bosses are optional, you can come back to them later in the game once you've get your hands on better Lightning spells.

Fortissax's Lightning Spear, Horned Bolt, and Lightning Spear are some of the best Incantations you can use to exploit the Hunter's weakness to Lightning.

Fortissax's Lightning Spear is an Incantation you can acquire after defeating Lichdragon Fortissax and giving its Remembrance to Finger Reader Enia in Roundtable Hold.

Also, as some of the fights are near Merchant Shacks, make sure that you deal with the enemies in the areas nearby. They have the potential to get in the way, lowering your chances of defeating the boss.

General Tips

  • The recommended level for the Warmaster's Shack Bell Bearing Hunter is 40. For the Church of Vows encounter, try to be around 60, and for the Hermit Merchant's Shack around 80. The Hunter in Caelid is the strongest, and you should be level 100 or higher when facing him.
  • Stay up close, so that the boss doesn't use his Arcane Sword Swings.
  • Get multiple free hits in as soon as the boss spawns, as he doesn't attack immediately.
  • The boss has high physical damage, so equipping the Dragoncrest Shield Talisman can be very useful.
