With just two days to go until you can hold Pokemon Legends: Arceus in your hands and pop it into your Switch, well done to you for avoiding what has been an array of spoilers for the past week. Copies of what might be the most ambitious Pokemon game to date made it out into the wild far earlier than intended, and if you were so inclined you could have basically checked out everything there is to see and hear about the game at this point.

If you have been patient and you're eagerly waiting to play the game yourself, here are two pieces of very good news. First, you'll find no spoilers here, so don't worry about that. Second, and most importantly of all, the reviews are in and by the sounds of it, Legends: Arceus is pretty great. In fact, as you can courtesy of the Reddit thread below, great might well be a pretty big understatement.

Legends: Arceus is raking in high scores from a number of outlets who have been afforded the opportunity to play the game ahead of time. Still no further insight from Christina Aguilera who had the chance to take the game for a spin over a month ago. Back to the official reviews, and the glowing remarks to be found all over the internet right now suggest Legends: Arceus is indeed the refresh many Pokemon fans believed the franchise was in dire need of.

“Pokemon Legends: Arceus is quite simply one of the greatest Pokemon games ever made,” according to Nintendo Life's review. VGC's comments on the game are equally as flattering, debating over whether it is the best Pokemon game of the last 20 years, or maybe even the best one ever. Suffice to say, if you have been on the fence about picking it up until now, this might be the best time to place that preorder.

Regardless of what you or anyone else thinks of Legends: Arceus, the switch to such a different Pokemon game when the tried and true formula arguably continues to work is a brave one. As for the first reviews, it sounds like Game Freak and Pokemon's bold leap into what is the unknown for its developers is about to pay off. Perhaps the Pokemon games of old will now be exactly that, and Legends: Arceus will be how we play Pokemon for years to come.
