The Arcana trade skill is one of the harder skills to level in New World. It requires you to make a lot of potions and later on, the leveling becomes a total grind.

RELATED: New World: Complete Crafting Guide

This guide covers some of the fastest, easiest ways to level up Arcana from level 1 all the way up to level 200. You're going to need water. Lots of it. And plenty of ingredients harvested from across the island of Aeturnum. Okay. Here goes. Get ready for the grind.

How To Level Arcana 0-1

This is by far the easiest stage of leveling the Arcana skill. You just need to craft a bunch of Weak Health and Mana potions. These don't require overly difficult materials to craft.

  • Weak Health Potion - Water and Hyssop or Bulrush Cob.
  • Weak Mana Potion - Water and Briar Buds. Check out our guide on where to find Briar branches to make this easy to collect.
Level 0-1 100 xp required 17 x Weak Health/Mana Potion (17 Water, 17 Hyssop, Bulrush Cob, or Briar Buds.)

How To Level Arcana 1-50

So the grind begins. To jump from level 1-50 you will need to craft 460 of the "Common" potions, i.e Common Health Potion and Common Mana Potion.

  • Common Health Potion - Tier 2 Medicinal Reagents, i.e Sporebloom Fruit, Platecap Flesh, Glowing Mushroom Cap, Lifebloom Stem, Gillflower Gills
  • Common Mana Potion - Tier 2 Magical Reagents, i.e Tanglewisp, Suncreeper Tendril, Soulsprout Stem, Bumbleblossom
Level 1-50 11,025 xp required 460 Common Mana / Health Potions

Where To Find The Ingredients You Need For Common Potions

Here's a rundown of the best ingredients to farm to make the Arcana leveling process much easier.

Recommended Ingredients For Common Health Potions

  • Platecape Flesh (for Health Potions) is harvested from Warm Platecap, found across the Monarch's Bluff region.
  • Harvesting Platecap Flesh is a good idea because you might also get a Glowing Mushroom Cap, which can be used to craft the potions, too.

Recommended Ingredients For Common Mana Potions

  • It has to be Bumbleblossom, the crafting ingredient found in abundance across the Weaver's Fen region.
  • For a lower level, head down to the First Light region to harvest the plentiful Tanglewisp across the area.

How To Level Arcana 50-100

Now things start to get pretty tricky. The tier 3 potions, the "Strong" variants of the Health and Mana Potions, now require extra materials.

Level 50-100 86, 250 xp required 959 Strong Health/Mana Potions

How To Craft Strong Health Potions

Here are the materials you can use to craft Strong Health Potions:

Medicinal Reagents Earth Reagents
Halibut Viscera Petalcap
Gleaming Lodestone Loamy Lodestone
Lifebloom Leaf Earthshell Tail
Sculpin Scales Earthspine Stem
Earthspine Leaf
Earthspine Flower
Earth Mote
Earth Wisp
Earth Essence
Earth Quintessence

The recommended area to harvest materials for Strong Health Potions is Monarch's Bluff.

  • There are plenty of Lifebloom and Lifejewels dotted around the region.
  • There are also plenty of Earthspine Plants which can drop Motes, Leaf, Stem, and Flower -- you can use all three for the potions.
  • There is also a long, easy route to harvest Earthspine Plants in Weaver's Fen -- tie this in with harvesting Bumbleblossom and you've got a very productive route.

How To Craft Strong Mana Potions

Here are the materials you can use to craft Strong Mana Potions:

Magical Reagents Air Reagents
Mushroom Fins Twistcap Spiral
Paddlefish Gills Suncreeper Tendril
Catfish Whiskers Shocking Lodestone
Snail Slime Lightning Beetle
Frogfish Tail Shockbulb Stem
Crystalline Lodestone Shockbulb Leaf
Soulsprout Leaf Shockbulb Flower
Air Mote
Air Wisp
Air Essence
Air Quintessence

These are our recommended materials to harvest that make crafting Mana potions easier.

  • Use up some of the Tier 3 resources you've already got from harvesting previous plants, like Mushroom Fins.
  • For Air Reagents, there is a fantastic harvesting route that leads from the Lodestone Lair in southern Monarch's Bluff all the way up to the Canary Mine in Everfall. Along this route are dozens upon dozens of Shockbulbs, which is where you can get plenty of Air Reagents from.

How To Level Arcana 100-150

You're getting there, but there are still 1,349 potions to go. Yep.

Level 100-150 404,550 xp required 1,349 Powerful Health/Mana Potions

How To Craft Powerful Health Potions

  • You need a Tier 4 Medicinal Reagent, in this case, a Lifebloom Flower.

Here are the other materials you need:

Earth Reagents Spirit Reagents
Petalcap Bumbleblossom
Loamy Lodestone Tubecap
Earthshell Tail Shellbed Cap
Earthspine Stem Crystalline Lodestone
Earthspine Leaf Soulwyrm Tongue
Earthspine Flower Soulsprout Stem
Earth Mote Soulsprout Leaf
Earth Wisp Soulsprout Flower
Earth Essence Dragon Fish Jaw
Earth Quintessence Soul Mote
Soul Wisp
Soul Essence
Soul Quintessence
  • There isn't much that is too different here compared to the previous Tier 3 potions. You will still need a lot of Earth Reagents like Petalcap and Earth Motes, for example.
  • The biggest grind here is the Lifebloom Flower. This is only gathered from the Lifebloom plant and is a fairly drop. You want to increase your Harvesting gathering luck percentage to make this a bit smoother.

How To Craft Powerful Mana Potions

  • You need a Tier 4 Magical Reagent, in this case, the Soulsprout Flower.

Here are the other materials you need:

Air Reagents Spirit Reagents
Twistcap Spiral Bumbleblossom
Suncreeper Tendril Tubecap
Shocking Lodestone Shellbed Cap
Lightning Beetle Crystalline Lodestone
Shockbulb Leaf Soulwyrm Tongue
Shockbulb Flower Soulsprout Stem
Air Mote Soulsprout Leaf
Air Wisp Soulsprout Flower
Air Essence Dragon Fish Jaw
Air Quintessence Soul Mote
Soul Wisp
Soul Essence
Soul Quintessence
  • Again, it's really the Soulsprout Flowers that will be an issue here. Most of the other resources you've already come across while crafting lower tier potions.
  • Soulsprout Flowers are a rare drop from Soulsprout Plants.
  • You can find Soulsprout Plants across Monarch's Bluff, Windsward, and Everfall.

How To Level Arcana 150-200

This is, without doubt, one of the most intense grinds in all of New World. You need loads of resources and much of them are located in some of the most dangerous, high-level areas of Aeternum.

Level 150-200 1,379,500 xp required (yes, you read that correctly) 2,225 Infused Health/Mana Potions

How To Craft Infused Health Potions

  • You need a Tier 5 Medicinal Reagent such as Azoth Water, Lifemoth Eyes, or a Poison Sac.

Here are the other materials you can use to craft the potions:

Earth Reagents Spirit Reagents
Petalcap Bumbleblossom
Loamy Lodestone Tubecap
Earthshell Tail Shellbed Cap
Earthspine Stem Crystalline Lodestone
Earthspine Leaf Soulwyrm Tongue
Earthspine Flower Soulsprout Stem
Earth Mote Soulsprout Leaf
Earth Wisp Soulsprout Flower
Earth Essence Dragon Fish Jaw
Earth Quintessence Soul Mote
Soul Wisp
Soul Essence
Soul Quintessence
  • Azoth Water is the only Tier 5 Medicinal Reagent that can be collected from a lower level area, i.e in Brightwood. There isn't much here and nowhere near enough to craft the number of required potions. It is mostly located across high-level areas, like Reekwater and Shattered Mountain.
  • Lifemoth Eyes are unreliably rare. Can only be collected from rare creatures.
  • Poison Sacs can only be harvested from Stingrays.

How To Craft Infused Mana Potions

  • You will need Tier 5 Magical Reagents, i.e Soulwyrm Tongue and Dragon Fish Jaw.

Here are the other materials you can use to craft the potions:

Air Reagents Spirit Reagents
Twistcap Spiral Bumbleblossom
Suncreeper Tendril Tubecap
Shocking Lodestone Shellbed Cap
Lightning Beetle Crystalline Lodestone
Shockbulb Leaf Soulwyrm Tongue
Shockbulb Flower Soulsprout Stem
Air Mote Soulsprout Leaf
Air Wisp Soulsprout Flower
Air Essence Dragon Fish Jaw
Air Quintessence Soul Mote
Soul Wisp
Soul Essence
Soul Quintessence
  • Soulwyrm Tongue is farmed from Soulwyrms around Reekwater and Ebonscale (high level areas), though you might find some in lower-level areas with a decent harvesting luck level.
