Microsoft concluded its Xbox 20th-anniversary celebration with the launch of the free-to-play Halo Infinite multiplayer beta, one month ahead of the full game's December 8th release. Following its much-publicized year-long delay last year, players had gotten their first tastes of the game's multiplayer through the recent preview test flights.

One mode that seemed to receive most of the attention and praise during the preview was Big Team Battle, a 12v12 matchmaking playlist that harkens back to the fun and chaotic days of Halo 3. And now that the floodgates have been opened to anyone with a recent Xbox or capable PC, you can bet that matches will be filled with players of varying skill levels. Those that are new to Halo or didn't get the benefit of practicing during the test flights don't need to stress about it too much though, not if they implement the following pro tips and tricks.

Updated November 22, 2021: In order to truly attain mastery of Big Team Battles in Halo Infinite's multiplayer, we've included a video guide on our pro tips. It should further illustrate how to be the top player in a match.

7/7 Learn The Basics

Gone are the days when the only way to get good at Halo multiplayer was to throw yourself into the fray with other more seasoned players. Halo Infinite gives newbies and rusty veterans alike a much better option, which is the Spartan Academy, a training mode where they can practice to their heart's content without the added pressure of letting down their teammates.

The Academy has a full tutorial that covers all the basics, as well as weapon drills that help you practice at a shooting range with the different guns available in the game. You can even hop into a match with bots and adjust the difficulty to suit your needs, making it a viable option for more seasoned players looking to get a decent challenge while honing their skills.

6/7 Familiarize Yourself With The Maps

The current Halo Infinite multiplayer beta includes three dedicated Big Team Battle maps: Deadlock, Fragmentation, and High Power. While that number is sure to go up once the full game releases in December, players looking to up their current skill and standing should aim to familiarize themselves with each one.

The good news is that all three maps are laid out in such a way as to make the use of vehicles viable. Also, there are areas that should offer adequate cover from enemy fire, so it is not just all open fields. You should learn where all the regenerating weapon pickups are, as well as vehicle drop zones. That way, you're more likely to get your hands on the much sought-after weapons before anyone else.

5/7 Stay On Your Toes

Owing to the big size of the Big Team Battle maps, the temptation to camp out somewhere out of reach and wait for the enemies to reveal themselves can be greater than ever. But you must resist that temptation because doing so would most likely have the reverse effect and make you an easy target for unseen snipers.

Instead, you should make the most of the available map by finding strategic points you can move through. This would enable you to cover more ground while making it that much harder for enemies to pin you down in one spot.

4/7 Keep An Eye On The Radar

Another thing you'll want to make sure you're doing while playing Big Team Battle in Halo Infinite is keeping an eye on the radar. It lets you spot nearby enemies even when they might be behind a wall (provided they are not crouching or standing still).

You can also mark enemies you've seen or even items, and they'll show up on the radar, which makes it that much easier for you to relocate them should they slip out of your sights during the course of a match.

3/7 Master The Grappleshot

One of the newly-introduced mechanics in Halo Infinite's gameplay is the Grappleshot. This is basically a grappling hook that lets players zip from one area of the map to another. But it doesn't end there, as it has other uses.

You can pull in faraway items for example, or even pull weapons out of the enemy's hand into your own. You can also grapple onto moving vehicles like Banshees, allowing you to hijack them midflight. The possibilities are seemingly limitless so the sooner you master the ins and outs of the Grappleshot the better.

2/7 Stick Close To Your Teammates

Big Team Battle as the name suggests is all about teamwork. So you'll need to ensure you work together with your teammates to achieve the objectives, whether this is to capture the enemy flag in Capture The Flag or to defend a captured control point in Total Control.

One easy way of getting overrun or gunned down during those game modes though is by straying far away from your team members. This instantly puts you at risk of getting taken down by a group of enemies with no one there to help or avenge you. There is strength in numbers basically, so keep that number high and improve your chance of surviving enemy encounters.

1/7 Don't Be Afraid To Get Up Close And Personal

There is no shortage of guns in Halo Infinite, from the sturdy assault rifle to the alien needler. In the right hands, each one can offer ample opportunities for some decent mid and long-range takedowns.

But let's say the enemy is right in front of you and you've barely managed to deplete their shield before you run out of bullets. What do you do? Well, when all else fails, do not hesitate to resort to your elbows and fists. Sometimes all it takes to bring down a stubborn enemy Spartan is a well-timed melee attack to the face.
