Story Achievements

There are five achievements in the game that are awarded to you simply for progressing through the game:

Achievement How To Unlock
Part One Awarded after completing the Prelude.
Part Two Awarded after completing Part One.
Part Three Awarded after completing Part Two.
Part Four Awarded after completing Part Three.
Part Five Awarded after completing Part Four.

Prelude Achievements

There are two achievements to pick up during the Prelude.

Achievement How To Unlock
Lucky Duck After picking up the four-leaf clover from the field, give it to the duck in the pond.
Pegleg After unlocking the outhouse door with the key, return the pegleg to the Scurvydog Shack.

Part One Achievements

There are six achievements to be found in this part.

Achievement How To Unlock
Bragging You must tell 15 people that you are searching for the Secret of Monkey Island. You need to select this dialogue option whenever it pops up with the following characters:
  • The navigator
  • The three pirates in the Scumm bar
  • Cobb in the Scumm bar, once he shows up
  • The new pirate leaders
  • The old pirate leaders (you will need to enable Writer's Cut in the settings menu to get them to show up in Part One. Otherwise, they can be encountered in Part Four)
  • The Scumm bar cook
  • Wally
  • The Voodoo Lady
  • Carla
  • Locke Smith
  • Otis
  • Stan
  • Conrad Lee
Cartography Nerd Examine everything in Wally's shop. There are 18 maps to examine in total.
Fan Service Once you have spoken to the Voodoo Lady, Cobb appears in the Scumm bar. Talk to him, goading him to tell you about Loom. Eventually, he will give you the spiel, and you'll get this achievement.
Hey Wait! Use Wally's monocle on Otis' jail cell door. Give the serial number you acquire to Locke Smith to get a key, and then use the key to unlock the cell door.
Mop Heist Once you have distracted the cook in the Scumm bar by giving him the recipe book from the governor's mansion, pick up his mop and try to leave with it.
Mop Top Before you combine the mop handle with the mop head of your choice, save your game. You need to make the mop with all four different mop heads, and reloading after each different mop head combination is the quickest way to do this. The four possible mop heads are:
  • The string from the Scumm bar kitchen pier.
  • The skull from the Voodoo Lady's shop.
  • The stuffed toy from the governor's mansion.
  • The sponge from Stan's shipyard.

Part Two Achievements

There are four achievements to obtain here.

Achievement How To Unlock
Dead Dead Dead To get this, Guybrush has to die for real. To do this, let the timer run out when you head underwater at the back of the LeShip and examine the rudder. The game will give you multiple chances, so you'll have to let the timer run out multiple times before Guybrush dies for real and you get the achievement.
Hot Headed Once you've successfully had Putra make the Scorched Alaska (and made it extremely hot on Hard Mode) try to get Guybrush to eat it multiple times. On the fourth attempt, he'll take a bite.
Neat Freak When tasked with reporting messes on the ship, you need to find all 8 possible messes. To do this, save your game before finding any, find five of them, and then reload the game to find the other three.
  1. Give the ghost chicken on the right of the hold some chicken feed and then leave the screen. Return and there will be some chicken splat underneath it - this is a reportable mess.
  2. Gullet, stuck down the back of the ship and in the rudder, also counts as one.
  3. The spilled potion on the deck.
  4. The entire galley.
  5. Any grease spots in the hold.
  6. The greasy porthole in the hold.
  7. The rat outside LeChuck's cabin.
  8. The empty crates on the deck.
Super Swabbie Using the mop, swab up the grease on the floor 20 times.

Part Three Achievements

Only two achievements lie on Monkey Island itself.

Achievement How To Unlock
Not Bitter On the beach that you arrive on, examine the tree on the left with "L + E" scratched into it. Kick it five times.
Tight Ship After being tasked with repairing the Sea Monkey, head back to the Giant Monkey Head and pick up all the skulls. Then, once you actually repair the ship, the achievement will pop.

Part Four Achievements

A whopping 11 achievements are obtained in Part Four.

Achievement How To Unlock
Ahoy There Go to the adrift ship on the sea map and talk to the pirates there. Use the "ahoy" dialogue option repeatedly until you get the achievement.
Bookworm Examine all copies of "At The End Of The Plank" in the game. It's a purple-covered book.
  • In Locke Smith's shop on the right.
  • In the governor's mansion in the bookcase.
  • Inside the ice castle on Brrr Muda Island.
  • Inside the fish shop once it opens.
  • In Herman Toothrot's cave on Terror Island.
Cogg Island This can only be achieved after you have beaten the game once. Once that has been done, the location of Cogg Island will be revealed through a trivia question answer - it's a randomized coordinate. Head there using the sea map.
Deep Sea Diver Once you have the ability to dive to the ocean floor (either automatically on Casual Mode or after getting the blowfish on Hard Mode), explore the sea repeatedly. Eventually, you'll encounter all seven different variations of the seabed location and this achievement will pop.
Dental Samaritan Pick up Stan's toothbrush at the shipyard on Mêlée Island and deliver it to him in the Ice Quarry.
Flag Facsimile During the section of this Part that requires you to get three of Bella Fisher's flags, you'll get one of them from the adrift ship. You'll also get a replica flag from the Museum of Pirate Lore. Once you've taken the flag from the adrift ship, replace it with the replica.
On The Lam Every time you enter the fish shop on Mêlée Island, the lumpsucker on the floor will edge closer to the door. Leave and return to the fish shop until it manages to escape.
Patient Citizen Wait in line for the governor's mansion and don't do anything else. It'll take around three minutes before the achievement pops.
Promise Keeper In the previous part you acquired a book of poetry from Gullet - hand this to Conrad at the Pirate Museum on Mêlée Island.
Relief Pitcher Attempt to give Carla your coin purse after talking to her about earthquake relief.
Trophy Fisher During the Chum quest, tell the longest, most descriptive story. You can find the right options to pick in our walkthrough, here.

Part Five Achievements

Achievement How To Unlock
Free Wally Back in either Part Two or Part Four, you'll need to examine the shackles at the front of LeChuck's ship with your magnifying monocle - you'll get the serial number. Give this to Locke Smith in Part Four to get a key made, and in this Part, use the key to free Wally when you encounter him.
I Don't Believe Once you have Stan's keys at the very end of the game, head back into the alleyway and unlock the door. Go through it and climb back up the Monkey Head.
Speed Runner Simply complete the game within two hours. Once you know the solutions to every puzzle, this should be quite easy. Skip through all dialogue, make Guybrush dash everywhere, and turn off Writer's Cut in the settings menu.

There are also a number of achievements relating to trivia cards and trivia questions. Check out our guide to these here!
