Infernax is one of the standout throwback action platformers of 2022. It’s lengthy, it has buckets of replay value, there are a seemingly endless number of endings, and secrets are waiting to be found around every corner. We’ve already covered a few endings, and today, we are going to go over one of the harder ones to achieve - The Path Of The Future.

Most endings in Infernax require some mixture of doing good/bad things whilst holding/not holding a special book. The Path Of The Future doesn’t really fall into that category. Heck, it doesn’t even fall into the same genre of game once you pass a certain point. It’s truly unique, and we are going to take you through it step by step.

How To Unlock The Path of The Future Ending In Infernax

The trick to unlocking this ending is to pay attention to your Demon Codex. This will fill up as you play through the game, and its progress is persistent over multiple playthroughs. For the most part, it doesn’t do anything special - it simply acts like a codex. Things change once you pass a certain threshold.

Once you have filled in enough of your codex, you can start your journey to complete the game with the Path of The Future ending. Simply take your Codex to Gregor (north of Arkos) and if it is complete enough, he will whisk you away to the future. If not, he will tell you to come back later.

Provided you have filled in enough of your codex and been sent to the future, all you need to do is fight your way through a Contra-inspired level (with Contra-inspired mechanics to boot) and kill Azazel. This section is not too hard, in fact, we found it easier than most of the (many) last bosses in Infernax.

Once Azazel is dead, you have beaten the game and unlocked the ending.

How To Fill You Codex

This is the hard part. As far as we are aware, it is impossible to get your codex filled on one playthrough. You are going to have to play through the game at least three times to get enough pages filled in. The more you do in each playthrough the better.

For us, we went and claimed the Good, Ultimate Good, and Ultimate Evil ending, and this was enough to convince Gregor to let us fight Azazel. This makes unlocking this ending by far the most difficult because both of the Ultimate Endings require a lot of work to unlock. Being more or less forced to do them both and then some for this ending, is no easy feat.
