Silent Hill is a franchise that's all but dead, save for undying love from its greatest supporters. But unlike many of Konami's IPs, Silent Hill appears to be set for a resurgence. There's both a Silent Hill movie and "several games" in development, according to filmmaker Christophe Gans, who said in a new interview that it's all part of a plan to "revive the franchise."

Speaking to French outlet MaG (and with translation provided by ResetEra user Angie), Gans said there are "several games" being made.

"I'm working with the Silent Team, the original creators at Konami, there are several games in development as we speak, there are several teams on it, with a big line of games," said Gans. "They will revive the franchise, I think they were really impressed of the success of the remakes of Resident Evil that are evidently exceptional games."

This most recent interview reiterates statements Gans made back in June where he said Silent Hill was being relaunched with both a sequel to his 2006 film and multiple games, including one remake. That remake appears to be of Silent Hill 2, which is rumored to be in development by the Poland-based Bloober Team. Images purportedly of the game leaked in May and again just last month, although one is concept art and the other is heavily watermarked test footage that’s nowhere near representative of a finished product.

Gans said that he's not familiar with every team working on the games, but did say that members of the original Silent Hill are working on the sequel. That sequel could be Silent Hill: The Short Message, which was recently rated in South Korea.

As for the upcoming movie, filming is expected to begin in February, with Gans adding, "I'll try to explain that Silent Hill is a place that owes as much to the creatures that live there as what we project on the town."
