Though you’ll find many quests on offer in Potion Permit (mostly resource-gathering to help the townspeople improve their lives or jobs), some are essential to your game. Some will unlock new and invaluable resources, but will require extra time and effort from you.

One such quest is Cold Residue, and although it’s long, it’s definitely worth it. Not only will you be able to harvest the resource that's been unable to grow because of the frost spikes, but it’s also how you gain access to the second chemistry test as well, which is pivotal for proving yourself to the Medical Association to enhance your qualifications.

How To Start The Cold Residue Quest

Before you can begin the Cold Residue quest, you’ll need to have Glaze Iceberg unlocked, which is done by completing the Fixing the Cable Car quest. If you haven't yet unlocked this area of the map, check out our guide on how to complete Fixing the Cable Car.

Head to Glaze Iceberg and make your way to one of the northernmost points of the area, almost directly above the North of Glaze Iceberg teleportation spot. Here, you’ll come upon another steaming pit, this one surrounded by massive, spiky ice formations. Bubble will arrive in a cutscene and tell you what she knows, but suggests you talk to Osman, the hard-working police chief with the cape, to see what he knows, as his dad helped clean up the aftermath of the failed science experiments that took place here.

How To Learn About The Experiments

Osman can be elusive, as an officer constantly on patrol of Moonbury, so finding him can be difficult. If he’s not at the police station or at home, have your dog find him for you. Your dog can only find NPCs you’ve already met, so make sure you’re making friends around town.

You head to the police station with Osman, who shows you a locked file cabinet in his office. He tells you about his father, who was also a policeman and who knew the scientists working in the area you’re asking after. Osman still has his dad’s old filing cabinet, but not the key to get in.

Much of the backstory for this quest is found in the science logs littered around Glaze Iceberg when you first access the area, sticking up out of the ground, but you'll only find four of five pages. The final page will be in the filing cabinet.

How To Get Into The Filing Cabinet

Thankfully, Moonbury has a very capable handyman in Reyner, who owns Bulk and Build. He’s able to help get the cabinet open, but he’ll need some resources before he can start.

Items How To Get Them
5 Golden Nuggets Smashing the larger rocks in Glaze Iceberg
5 Timber Fruits Defeating the Blossom Shooters in Glaze Iceberg

When you deliver the items to Reyner, he thanks you for your help and tells you he ought to be finished by tomorrow. Go to bed to progress the quest.

Reyner brings you the key the following morning, and you need to bring the Cabinet Key to Osman. He takes you to his office and tells you his dad wanted the information to go to someone genuinely interested in what happened, and Osman hopes he’s making the right choice by showing you as he unlocks the cabinet.

After a cutscene, you receive a potion recipe that was inside, but it requires you to do some research at the bench in your house before you craft it. Once you’re done, White Breeze is available to make in your cauldron.

How To Make White Breeze

The potion has 18 squares, making it a significant challenge to create without upgrading your cauldron at Hearts and Sparks. If you haven’t upgraded yet, check out our guide on how to do so. To complicate matters, you’re only able to use Earth or Water materials to make the potion.

We have a possible solution to the puzzle for you above. We used:

What To Use Where To Get It
Sap Cutting down trees
Rainbow Dew Meadow Range after finishing the Annoying Bugs quest
Savage Mane Defeating Bonemasks in the Meadow Range
Lavender Meadow Range

When it’s finished, take the White Breeze potion to Osman. The pair of you will teleport to Glaze Iceberg right by the ice spikes to get rid of them together.

The Rewards

You’ll receive two things for finishing this quest. The first is the ability to harvest Yggdrasil daily. The plant has a handy three-square vertical shape, and three are available every day starting when you complete the quest (though they are hearty, so hopefully you’ve upgraded your scythe).

Additionally, when you wake up the day after completing the quest, Moira from the Medical Association will arrive to give you the information for your second test. You’re able to begin researching for it as soon as the cutscene with her is finished.
