Veterans of the Dark Souls series know that FromSoftware has a bunch of enemies that it reuses in every game of the series, and that’s equally true as the Japanese developer moved on to Elden Ring. The giant rats, skeletal dogs, imps, basilisks, slimes, and silver tears are all recurring enemies that are easily spotted by Dark Souls fans, but some are a little tougher to spot.
For example, the Asylum Demon of Dark Souls received a significant facelift before reappearing in Elden Ring as the Erdtree Avatars. Another is the Fire Prelate at Fort Laiedd in Mt. Gelmir, which bears a striking resemblance to Executioner Smough--at least, in terms of overall bulk.
A third enemy that fans have speculated on is the Omenkiller. These big brutes wield twin spiky clubs in Elden Ring and often come at the player at the most inopportune moments, but fans of the Dark Souls series realized early on that the Omenkiller’s attacks are very similar to the Capra Demon in the original Dark Souls.
And it turns out that feeling is entirely justified. Dark Souls dataminer and modder King Bore recently posted a comparison between the Omenkiller and Capra Demon’s attacks, and the moves are all nearly identical.
“You may have recognized that Omenkillers are reminiscent of Dark Souls 1's Capra Demon,” wrote King Bore. “Well, [the] reason why is because they are directly based off of Capra Demon data!"
As you can see, the attack animations for both critters are extremely similar. There are some slight differences noted by King Bore, such as the Omenkiller's jumping slam attack being slightly delayed compared to the Capra Demon, a move likely to keep Dark Souls veterans guessing.
Things get even more intriguing in the game files. According to King Bore, the Omenkiller's attack IDs match the Capra Demons in four out of five cases, and the Omenkiller's animation skeleton still retains data for a tail from when it was originally the Capra Demon's.
One of Elden Ring's unique bosses is the Godskin Duo, which one player recently spent 5.5 hours beating to death using only their fists.
