The term "gacha" isn't quite as widespread in the West as it is in Japan, but we all understand how a free-to-play game like Genshin Impact aims to make money through various currencies. Still, with every game inventing their own terms for their different types of currencies, and all of them being used for different purposes, it can be a major headache to try and keep it all straight. You don't need a personal banker if you want a simple breakdown of what all the currencies in Genshin Impact do or how you should be spending them thanks to our guide.

All Currency Guide In Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact has three primary types of currencies to wrap your head around: Premium, Wishing, and in-game currencies, with subcategories contained within each type. While you can get almost type of currency for free, the nature of gacha and free to play titles will be to try and incentivize you to pay real money for more of these types. In-game currencies, meanwhile, are only obtainable through gameplay.

Premium Currencies

Genesis Crystals: The only way you're going to get Genesis Crystals is if you're willing to fork up some real world cash. That makes getting them as simple as popping open the shop via the main menu and selecting which bundle you'd like, either with just Genesis Crystals or with a mix of other premium currencies. Here's a breakdown of how much these bundles cost.

  • $0.99 - 60 Genesis Crystals
  • $4.99 - 300 Genesis Crystals
  • $14.99 - 980 Genesis Crystals
  • $29.99 - 1980 Genesis Crystals
  • $49.99 - 3280 Genesis Crystals
  • $99.99 - 6480 Genesis Crystals

Based on the price per crystal, the best value is actually the $29.99 bundle rather than the most expensive, but the difference is less than a penny per crystal, so feel free to pick whichever option you like.

Genesis Crystals are best spent on Primogems, the next currency we'll go over. You get one Primogem per Genesis Crystal.

Primogems: These can be earned through Daily Quests, Battle Pass Ranks, Achievement rewards, and by completing the Spiral Abyss. You will only get them in very small increments, but if you're willing to put in the time, you can grind them out without having to spend a dime. The only other way to get them is to convert your Genesis Crystals we just went over.

You will use Promegems to buy Acquaint and Intertwined Fates, each costing 160, or a Battle Pass level for 150.

Wishing Currencies

The two Wishing currencies, Acquaint and Intertwined Fates, are earned either through Primogems or by leveling up your Adventure Rank. They only have one use, which is in the gacha mechanic of drawing new weapons and characters.

If you happen to get a roll from a Wish that is rank four stars, you will also earn some Stardust, or Starglitter if it is a five-star rank. Stardust can be used once per month to purchase five more of either Fate, as well as weapon materials and Mora.

Starglitter, on the other hand, can be used to buy an unlimited amount of either Fate currency for the month, plus materials, weapons, and even new characters.

In-Game Currencies

Mora: This is your most common, run of the mill, gold equivalent in Genshin Impact. You'll be earning this for just about everything you do, including quests, killing mobs, beating dungeons, opening chests, and more. For as common as it is, you'll want a lot of it because it is necessary for a lot of important mechanics such as:

  • Raising your character's levels
  • Leveling up weapons and artifacts
  • Purchasing consumable items
  • Commissioning weapons at the forge

Anemo Sigil: This is a currency specific to the Mondstadt area, and can either be found in chests located in that area, or via increasing the rank of the Anemo Statues of the Seven. It is used for buying Ascension materials, weapon Ascension materials, equipment, or exchanged for Mora.

Geo Sigil: The other regional currency found in the Liyue area functions exactly as the Anemo Sigil, only is exclusive to Liyue chests and ranking up Geo Statues of the Seven.

Genshin Impact doesn't make its currency system easy, but this breakdown should make knowing what you need and how to get it far easier.
