Many bemoan some of the free-to-play aspects within Genshin Impact. Aside from the main story quests and character quests adding to the plotline and lore of Teyvat, there are additional components in the game that force you to farm for items. Between the experience materials, ascension materials, and Mora, those with multiple characters have their work cut out for them.

Luckily, miHoYo took pity on everyone by introducing the Parametric Transformer. After completing the Tianqiu Valley puzzle, you are rewarded with a device called the Parametric Transformer. This device transmutes eligible materials into very useful ones. Here are a few tips for using the Parametric Transformer.

Updated June 22, 2021, By Helen Ashcroft: As Genshin Impact offers new characters and weapons to collect the material grind also continues. While many different items are used to either level a character or enhance a weapon, most people have a stack of something they don't use in their backpack due to differing teams.

With dailies to do, hilichurls to kill, and domains to defeat, you're likely to have amassed several hundred of a random item just don't need, like mint or damaged masks. The Parametric Transformer is a helpful way to transform some of these into items you can actually use. We've updated this list to turn it into a fully-fledged guide; showing how to get and use the Parametric Transformer.

How To Get The Parametric Transformer

In order to get your hands on the Parametric Transformer, you'll first need to complete the Tianqui Treasure Trail quest. Here's where you can find it:

  • Rank Requirement - Adventure Rank 31
  • Quest Giver - Lan In Liyue Harbor
  • Starting Location - Lan is located next to Katheryne's desk at the Adventurer's Guild.

How To Complete The Tianqui Treasure Trail Quest

Lan will begin by telling you about a clue someone has found that apparently leads to treasure. If you want to go and find it simply accept the quest and then you'll see a location in Tianqiu Valley marked on your map.

Once there you will need to fight some enemies, one of which will drop a treasure map. You'll need to take a look at it in the quest tab of your inventory and follow it to the point it marks in Danyu Ruins.

Search the location on the map and examine the books and scrolls you find. This should give you a strange note. You'll also end up with three new treasure locations to visit.

Visiting each of these will reward you with an Exquisite Chest. It doesn't matter which order you visit them in, once you've opened all three chests you'll be rewarded with a strange box.

Hand this over to Lan and the quest will be completed and you'll receive the Parametric Transformer as a reward.

What Is The Parametric Transformer?

The parametric transformer takes common or rare items up to the value of 150 points. Common items are worth less points, while rarer ones are worth more. It then transforms these into five to ten "bundles" of items.

Mostly you will receive five to seven, and rarely this increases to eight to ten. Each bundle will be one of the following:

  • Mora - 20,000
  • Character EXP Materials - Two Hero's Wit and Three to Four Adventurers Experience
  • Weapon Enhancement Materials - Four Mystic Enhancement Ore and Nine Fine Enhancement Ore
  • Three Star Character Ascension Materials - One fragment of a random element
  • Three Star Talent Level-Up Materials - One guide-level book of a random type
  • Three Star Weapon Ascension Materials - One of any material that drops from level 40 mobs
  • Two Star Character Ascension Materials - Two slivers of a random element.
  • Three Star Talent Level-Up Materials - Four teachings-level books
  • Two Star Weapon Ascension Materials - Six base level materials

Like other usable gadgets in Genshin Impact, the Parametric Transformer has a cooldown time. It is a longer one than most at seven days.

Teyvat resets early Monday morning and allows you to attempt the boss domains again for the new week. However, it will not reset the Parametric Transformer. The gadget's cooldown is always seven real-time days from when it was used.

Tip: Based on the boss drops and how many domains you plan on farming for the week, using the Parametric Transformer on Sundays can help you plan for the next week.

How To Use The Parametric Transformer

The Parametric Transformer is easy to use but does involve a few steps. Here's what you need to do.

Step One: Find A Suitable Locate To Use The Parametric Transformer

As seen in the image above you actually need to use an elemental skill to activate the transformation. This means that you don't want to attempt this somewhere random.

There’s nothing worse than getting attacked while trying to transmute items. Unlike some of the gadgets in Genshin Impact, there are very few restrictions around where you can set up the Parametric Transformer.

Springvale, Mondstadt, Liyue Harbor, and Qingce Village are good places to transmute since monsters don’t spawn in these areas.

Step Two: Locate The Parametric Transformer In Your Inventory

The Parametric Transformer is under the gadget section of your inventory and functions in a similar manner to the Serenitea Pot.

Simply click its icon and then the place button and it will appear in front of you, ready to be interacted with.

Step Three: Select The Items You Want To Transform

You need items to the value of 150 to be able to perform a transformation. Item value is based on rarity and points increase with each level.

  • Common Items (grey background) One Point
  • Uncommon Items (green background) Two Points
  • Rare Items (blue background) Three Points
  • Epic items (purple background) Four Points

Mint, berries, and sweet flowers are all good options for transmuting. All three are easy to find throughout Teyvat and respawn every day. You could easily be sitting on 300 berries at a time purely for transmutation.

Since the Parametric Transformer is a bit of a gamble, it doesn’t work in your favor to use rarer items or ascension materials unless you have a huge amount. For example, while Valberry bushes produce four berries that are rarer, they only respawn after 49 real-time hours. On the other hand, normal berry bushes yield only three lower-quality berries but respawn with the game’s daily reset.

Once you have selected the items, simply hit initiate transmutation on the confirmation screen.

Step Four: Use Your Elemental Skills

In order to use the Parametric Transformer, you have to use Elemental Skills to power the device for transmutation. Once the Parametric Transformer gets to 100 percent, the transmutation process will be completed.

All Elemental Skills provide around five to six percent to the Parametric Transformer’s energy meter, regardless of whether or not the skill is charged or how long its cooldown period lasts. To complete it faster, use characters with short Elemental Skill cooldown times.

Tip: A common misconception is that the type of Elemental Skill used affects the outcome of the Parametric Transformer. So far, players who have logged their results each week consistently using one elemental type at a time haven’t found a pattern to suggest this.

Step Five: Claim Your Rewards

As previously mentioned, you'll gain five to seven bundles of items most of the time and the results of the Parametric Transformer are completely random.

With this in mind here are a couple of tips for getting the most out of the process.

Use Common Items In The Parametric Transformer

Those recording their weekly progress haven’t found any patterns or consistent, good results by testing different variations. Using 100 percent of an elemental type or using Cor Lapis for all 150 transmutation slots won't yield better results than using all those mushrooms you don't need.

Rather than giving up ascension and talent material, it’s best to just play the odds and use common, daily respawn items to fuel the Parametric Transformer.

Collect Everything

The Parametric Transformer allows you to transmute once a week but if you are using common items then you'll need a lot. With this in mind, it's worth collecting everything you see on your travels.

You may not need all those berries but the items they can be turned into are far more valuable.

Combine Different Items

The Parametric Transformer gives you the option to use more than one type of item. This means that you can split the transmutation materials between mint, berries, and sweet flowers if you don’t have enough of one of them.

So far, players haven’t reported a pattern for doing split transmutations. The game doesn’t appear to penalize or reward players for using the Parametric Transformer this way so take whatever trash you have and turn it into treasure.
