Childe is the challengeable boss that players will face near the end of the Liyue story arc in Genshin Impact. Childe can be taken on once every week for rewards, some of which are needed to finish leveling some character's talents. Childe can be a harsh boss, so much so that he was actually nerfed shortly after being released.

He takes much longer to deal with than Stormterror and is able to use multiple elements. On top of all of that, Childe actually has three different health bars to contend with, but luckily he does not use a shield to further complicate the battle process.

Childe Boss Battle Prep

Childe is a boss that you really want to stock up on dishes for. It's a good idea to have healing dishes stocked up and bring some revival food with you. You will also want to use some defense and offense buffing food on your party. Along with a good stock of food, your party should be prepared to take on this battle. You will want to have both a strong DPS character and a ranged attacker so that you can still damage Childe while keeping your distance.

  • Childe has three forms and several powerful attacks.

Using a shield to help absorb the damage Childe dishes out is extremely helpful, especially for players who plan to go all-in with a close-ranged DPS. Even with ranged characters, you will likely be hit by quite a few of Childe's attacks during his second and final battle forms. Bringing a healer is also a great idea, as Barbara and Qiqi can both help your DPS keep their health up. Keep in mind that Barbara will help a bit more in this battle as Qiqi needs to directly attack him to get the most out of her healing.

In addition, you should use items that help give you further elemental resistance as it can make a huge amount of difference in the fight.

Prepare for Multiple Elements

Childe has a lot of attacks, but let's start with his first phase, where he uses hydro. Childe is able to use hydro arrows and send hydro slashes swirling at you; keep moving to dodge them. The same strategy works for when he summons circles onto the field that will burst with hydro damage. What you're going to really want to watch out for is when he summons a whale onto the field that deals colossal damage. Watch for Childe to summon a giant hydro circle and run to the side; if you can get behind Childe, you can also avoid taking damage.

After you deplete his first health bar, he will activate his electro delusion and become much more aggressive. Not only will he still shoot projectiles at you, but now he will aggressively dash towards you at high speeds. He does this attack in succession, and the best way to avoid it is to try to run in the opposite direction. One thing that you really need to watch out for is an electro ring appearing around your character. If it does appear, then run to the edge of the ring to get the pyro status or you will end up getting hit with a chunk of unavoidable electro damage.

At the end of his second health bar, a cutscene will trigger, and Childe will transform into his Foul Legacy form. This is an aggressive combination of both his electro and hydro powers.

  • You can skip the cutscene by holding in the skip button; this button varies by platform.

During this phase, you will need to worry about the electric ring, the whale, and an upgraded hydro bust attack. It's extremely important to focus on dodging first and attacking Childe in between attack intervals. During this phase, he will attack much more frequently and you will need to worry about reactions from being hit with both elements back to back. Running to the edge of the arena to get a pyro status is a good strategy. This is also likely the period of time that you are going to need to keep an eye on your health the most.

Tips For Damaging Childe

One of the best tips is to equip yourself with a catalyst or bow user. This will allow you to keep a distance from Childe and continually deal damage. Reactions are also a huge help to take out bigger chunks of his health. A great idea is to use abilities like Fischl's Oz to continuously hit Childe with elemental damage so that you can trigger reactions without getting too close.

A great time to run in for an attack is when you have your burst ready. This will ensure that you are getting the most out of your burst. Before you run in, though, pop a shield to try to mitigate the damage; having Beidou use her shield in the fight can be especially useful when Childe is using electro attacks.
