It's a big world out there in the land of Teyvat, and you'll constantly be distracted by interesting places to explore, enemies to fight, and tons of materials to pick up. Out of the dozens of plants out there just begging to be collected in Genshin Impact, Violetgrass is one of the most useful, yet elusive.

This material is one you'll want to build a stock of sooner rather than later for crafting and upgrading certain characters, but can't be found just anywhere. Here's a guide on where to find Violetgrass in Genshin Impact.

Updated: October 12, 2021, by Helen Ashcroft: As we continue to gain new regions to explore and specalties to collect, violetgrass, a Liyue specialty, remains useful as an ascension item for Qiqi and Xinyan. It's also used in recipes. We've updated this guide to add a map of all the locations it can be found, as well as places it can be purchased.

Uses Of Violetgrass In Genshin Impact

The most common use of Violetgrass is for ascension and both Qiqi and Xinyan will require it. You'll need 168 violetgrass in total per character to fully ascend to level 90.

Violetgrass is also used in the following recipes:

  • 2 x Potato
  • 1 x Matsuke
  • 1 x Violetgrass
  • Increases all party members CRIT Rate

Where To Find Violetgrass In Genshin Impact

What makes Violetgrass tricky to find at first is that it actually grows on the side of cliffs, so you will need to climb up and find a plant sprouting out of the rock to collect it. The map above shows the locations where the plant can spawn, which are quite spread out. There should be a few shrubs growing on most of the various cliff faces around Liyue but violetgrass is more concentrated in certain areas. These are the ones we recommend:

Wuwang Hill

If you go to the southernmost waypoint you can head north-east and the cliffs here usually have a few to collect. There is also a cluster over to the west of the waypoint, around the ruins.

Mt. Aocang

Just south of this waypoint is an area with suspended bridges set between cliffs. There are several clusters of violetgrass all around these cliffs, as well as the crop of cliffs between Qingyun Peak and Mt. Hulao.

Mt. Tianheng

Just west of Liyue Harbor is a great place to glide around. There are crops of violetgrass on the west side of Mt. Tianberg. You'll also find the plants North of both waypoints in this areas, as well as around Qingju Pass and on the cliffs just south of Danyu Ruins.

Violetgrass is not exclusive to these area of the map, and can be found just about anywhere there are cliffs. However, these locations are the easiest places to farm due to the high chance of spawns in a smaller area.

Tip: If you have Qiqi or Yanfei then you'll see specialties marked with a hand icon on your minimap. This can really help with navigation, although other specialties will be displayed as well so they won't all be violetgrass.

Where To Buy Violetgrass In Genshin Impact

There are two npcs in Liyue that sell violetgrass. Both of them hold stock of five violetgrass which is refreshed every three days. The cost is 1,000 mora per item.

  • Herbalist Gui: Located at Bubu Pharmacy, Liyue Harbour
  • Verr Goldet: Located at Wangshu Inn, Dihua Marsh

You can also purchase violetgrass seeds from Tubby for five realm currency each and grow them in your Serenitea Pot. They will take just shy of three days to grow in a luxuriant glebe gardening patch.

Now that you know where to look, this sneaky plant should be much easier to come by in your travels. Just keep an eye out on any cliffs you see, or head back to Wuwang Hill for a reliable source of Violetgrass whenever you need it.
