Destiny 2 Season of Plunder is here, and with it a lot of new weapons, armor, the long-awaited Arc 3.0 subclass, and two new activities called Ketchcrash and Expedition. Once you familiarize with the new content, you must head to the H.E.L.M. to meet this season's vendor.
The Star Chart is a machine that will help you to find numerous Buried Treasures and expand on your Crewmates, for further benefits that will aid you during your many piracy-related activities. You will have to invest time and effort into upgrading the Star Chart, but the bonuses it provides are certainly worthy of it.
Updated September 10, 2022: We've updated this guide to include a video that breaks down everything you need to know about Star Chart Progression.
How Do I Upgrade The Star Chart?
To upgrade the Star Chart you can either level up its Reputation Rank or unlock the Pirate Crew Bonuses. To increase the reputation rank, you must participate in Expedition and Ketchcrash missions, Star Char Bounties, and complete Seasonal Challenges. You can do this with no limit per week, and every few ranks you will unlock different bonuses or items such as Engrams, Treasure Maps, Map Fragments and Buried Treasures.
However, to properly unlock the Pirate Crew bonuses, you need to obtain Repute, the new currency this season introduces specifically for this purpose. Repute can be obtained by fulfilling some specific weekly challenges, and you have a limited amount per week available, so you won't be able to fully upgrade this vendor from the beginning. The challenges you must complete to obtain Repute this way are the following:
Challenge Week | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
Week 1 | Successful Expedition |
|
Antiquarian 1 |
|
Once you have obtained enough Repute, you can go to the Star Chart and open the Pirate Crew Menu. There, you will be able to invest your currency into any of the three available trees called Quartermaster, Navigator, and Swashbuckler. These trees will unlock different pirate crew members for you to recruit and some bonuses that will affect you during the activities introduced during this season. These go as follows:
Quartermaster | Navigator | Swashbuckler |
---|---|---|
Hire Scur-V The Servitor
| Hire Halsiks The Sniper
| Hire The Skiffblades
|
Captain's Share
| Armor Treasure Map
| Floating Debris

| Magnetic Drill
|

|

|

|
Where Do I Find Plundered Umbral Energy?
If you want to farm the necessary Umbral Energy of this season to focus on engrams and roll for new weapons and armor pieces, you must complete Expedition missions. These will involve activating a drill and fighting numerous enemies until it digs out enough treasure for you to transport, and fighting more enemies after that until you safely secure your treasure. Right after finishing an Expedition, you will see several treasure piles where you can spend a previously built and equipped Treasure Map, to reveal the extra rewards that will give you this new material.
