Genshin Impact is a free-to-play RPG that allows you to explore the beautiful world of Teyvat; completing quests, vanquishing enemies, and exploring the secrets of its inhabitants. This is done mostly through the eyes of the Travellers, a pair of separated twin siblings. You'll play as either Lumine or Aether, and during your journey to find your sibling will encounter many other interesting people that can join your party.

Genshin has given us a wide range of characters to fall in love with. As well as having unique talents and skills, each one also has their own back story. Since the launch of the game, new characters have been added to the lineup, and more information about characters' backgrounds has been added to the game's lore through in-game events as well as the Genshin Impact manga. This list gives you the basics of each Genshin Impact character's background as well as their birthday, age, and height. Some of these statistics are best guesses, but this is specified in each character's entry. All characters are listed in alphabetical order.

Sticking with the Electro theme is the latest five-star Cyno, while his four-star banner companion is Hydro polearm user Candace. These Sumeru residents have been added to our list.

¹ This is based on the fact he sees Klee as a younger sister after he was taken in by her mother Alice. He's also described as a "young man" and is of legal drinking age.

² Based on player theories and speculation.

³ Estimated based on her being 14 when she got Electro Vision but having had no visions in two years, according to the main story.

⁴ Based on her having fought in the Archon Wars.

⁵ Estimated based on player speculation about her being slightly younger than Diluc, who she calls Senpai, as he used to be her superior in the Knights of Favonius.

⁶ His father died when he was 18 and in the manga, Lisa says his father has been dead for 3-4 years.

⁷ Estimated based on his lore update in 1.2 that says he is now a young adult.

⁸ Venti was an elemental being during the Archon War but took on the appearance of an underage soldier who died in battle.

Kamisato Ayaka

Kamisato Ayaka is the eldest daughter of the Kamisato Clan of the Yashiro Commission. She has a high social standing and this is shown from the moment we meet her.

Being in charge of internal and external affairs keeps her busy. She's described as being as wise and strong as she is beautiful and elegant. She also cares a great deal about those around her. While Thoma is her assistant she's keen to convey that he is also a friend.

Kamisato Ayato

As the eldest son, Kamisato Ayato is the leader of the Kamisato Clan, as well as being the Yashiro Commissioner. He's the older brother of Ayaka and prefers to live a low-key life, rarely venturing out in public.

He has a lot in common with Ayaka, being mature, steadfast, and caring towards those from all walks of life. Ayoto values loyalty and family, having risked his life for his sister in the past.

Albedo

Albedo, also known as the Kreideprinz, is an alchemist with a huge thirst for knowledge. This has led him to the position of Chief Alchemist and Captain of the Investigation Team for the Knights of Favonius in Mondstadt. He is assisted by Sucrose and Timaeus, and loves investigating and understanding obscure knowledge from generations of scholars who came before him.

Aside from this, he is also an artist and while he has illustrated Xingqiu's novels, many of his pieces are unfinished. Most of his energy is said to be spent sorting out Klee's chaos. He was recently revealed to be hiding a huge secret about his identity, one that is likely to impact future storylines.

Amber

Carrying the lost practice of being an Outrider, Amber is the last of their kind among the Knights of Favonius. Impressively, she's also the three-time champion of Mondstadt's Gliding Championship.

She's friendly and cheerful, passionate about what she does, ever-eager, and straight to the point. Amber lives by the Knights code and is unafraid to tackle anything that comes her way.

Barbara

Barbara is Jean's younger sister who wishes she could be as talented (and as tall) as Jean. She is the deaconess of the Church of Favonius, vowing to make Mondstadt's citizens feel better emotionally and physically.

She's a beacon of joy and known for her love of music. She's a self-proclaimed 'idol' and her music has been embraced by the community, although it took some time.

Beidou

Captain of the Crux Fleet, Beidou's strength and command come from years of experience as one of the eldest among the playable characters cast.

Said to be able to bring even the most chaotic storms to her mercy, all her crew know they can trust her with their lives. She's known across Liyue for being unafraid of the Tianquan of the Liyue Qixang, Ningguang.

Bennett

Bennett, everyone's favorite go-getter, is Mondstadt Adventurers Guild's beloved orphan. Despite misfortune following him like a shadow, his determination keeps him going as the last member of "Benny's Adventure Team".

Good thing for him Katheryne doesn't have the heart to remove the team from the books.

Candace

Candace is said to be a descendant of King Deshret, blessed by the gods and tasked with being the guardian of Aaru Village. Her heterochromatic eyes make her stand out, and some have seen this as intimidating, especially when combined with her ability to harness the power of the dessert.

However, Candace is incredibly kind and will help anyone in distress. She welcomes visitors and looks after all in the village. Although this kindness should not be misconstrued as weakness. Those who disobey the village rules will pay a hefty price.

Collei

Collei was very ill as a child and was brought to a seer in an effort to save her life. The seer claimed that he had a cure for the illness, known as Eleazar, so Collei's mother handed her over to save her life. Sadly, this was a deception that resulted in Collei becoming a test subject for Fatui experiments.

She eventually broke free of the Fatui, although we don't know how, and now finds herself an outcast. She's incredibly pessimistic and has a thirst for vengeance. She's thought to still be only around 16 or so, but has been under Fatui control for most of her life.

Chongyun

For Chongyun, his positivity is all he needs to fend off whatever evil spirits lurk nearby, making him perfect for carrying on the family trade of exorcism. However, while this makes him highly effective, he's also disadvantaged.

Never having actually seen an evil spirit, since they flee from his innate high spirits, he'd still rather encounter one to improve on his skill.

Cyno

Cyno is a young scholar from Sumeru Akademiya who holds the position of General Mahamatra, setting consequences for those who commit academic offenses such as plagiarism. He can come across as stern or standoffish, but he is just trying to be clear and concise.

Outside his academic role, which he takes very seriously, he enjoys playing TCGs, making jokes (badly), and having fun with his friends, who include Collei.

Diluc

This fiery boy with the short fuse used to be a loyal member of the Knights of Favonius. Once passionate and determined to protect Mondstadt no matter what, his internal flame flickered away after the poor handling of his father's death when he was 18.

Now, he's retired as a knight and inherited the Dawn Winery from his father. He still defends Mondstadt but as a vigilante, rather than a knight.

Diona

Diona is unique in that she's a popular bartender who mixes amazing drinks, yet hates alcohol. She finds herself always mixing perfect drinks, which is both a blessing and a curse. This dislike of alcohol is likely to stem from being neglected by her father Draff during his drunken stupors.

She has trace elements of non-human blood and is very protective of others. She craves friendship and is always happy to help others.

Dori

Dori is a Sumeru merchant who has a penchant for being resourceful and acquiring high quality goods of dubious origin. She vets her customers carefully and then uses her charm to persuade them to part with their Mora.

While some regard her as an unscrupulous con artist, others will happily pay her high prices in order to get their hands on rare items they'd otherwise struggle to find. Dori doesn't much care about her reputation, prefering to focus on keeping herself and her clients out of trouble with the authorities while raking in the coins.

Eula

Eula is a descendant of the Lawrence Clan, who once ruled over Mondstadt with an iron fist. She is described as an outstanding Spindrift Knight and is the Captain of the Knights of Favonius Reconnaissance Company, although we are unsure how this came to be.

Despite her aristocratic heritage, Eula has a very different outlook from her clan. She is one of few nobles who acknowledge that the clan's actions against Mondstadt were unjustified, causing them to consider her a traitor. Eula is free-spirited and can be a reliable ally and friend. However, many cannot forget her lineage and she struggles with being viewed in the same way.

Fischl

Fischl von Luftschloss Narfidort introduces herself as "Prinzessin der Verurteilung" and arrived in Mondstadt after being exiled from the otherworld. She is an investigator in the Adventurers' Guild and is always accompanied by Oz, her night raven familiar.

She's been in the guild since she was 14 and enjoys speaking in increasingly complex sentences. This is so prevalent that the Adventurers joke about a "Fischl Dictionary" being required to translate her speeches.

Ganyu

Ganyu is a half-human, half-adeptus with half-qilin heritage. This means she has a range of different characteristics from both humans and Gods. She's hard-working as well as being both shy and reserved. Ganyu is the emissary and secretary for the Liyue Qixing, and manages an incredibly large workload with ease.

She also maintains good relationships with others, even Beidou, who has a terrible standing with the rest of the Qixang.

Gorou

Gorou is the general and leader of the resistance fighting against the Vision Hunt Decree. He's considered to be sincere, loyal and trustworthy. He speaks his mind and often fails to consider others feelings, yet others are drawn to him.

He has dog blood which has given him physical animal traits, namely ears and a tail. He also has the ability to understand dog barks.

Shikanoin Heizou

Heizou is a detective for the Tenryou Commission in Inazuma. Although, it appears that not everyone is happy about this. Kujou Sara keeps him around since he delivers results due to his incredible intuition and logical mind, but he clashes with fellow Commission employee Thoma. This is said to be due to Heizou's rebellious nature and desire to follow his own mind, rather than any restrictions placed on him by others.

While Heizou isn't the easiest person to get along with, he is cheerful and outgoing with a wild imagination. He uses untraditional methods of deduction but no one can deny that he gets results.

Hu Tao

Hu Tao is the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor's 77th director. She is a quirky character who enjoys pranking people. Hu Tao likes to keep busy and is often described as eccentric.

Her bizarre personality has earned her the disdain of some, including Qiqi. Hu Tao accepts death easily, which can come across as callous. However, she simply respects the process, something essential for her job.

Arataki Itto

Itto is the head of the Arataki Gang of Hanamizaka. He is an oni, meaning he has two red horns on his forehead. He also stands out due to his piercing voice and tall height. Despite this intimidating presence he is a free spirit who has passion for life and is usually happy.

Itto isn't a villain but neither is he a law-abiding citizen. He can often get into scrapes but does have a strong sense of fairness and justice. The children of Inazuma love him, and he often plays games with them.

Jean

The elegant and poised Jean Gunnhildr is already Acting Grand Master, despite being a young age. Although she got a boost from the Gunnhildr name as the eldest child and successor to the oldest family of knights in Mondstadt, her reputable reliability is definitely earned through her determination and dedication to protect the city.

She works hard and always puts the needs of the people of Mondstadt before her own, often to her detriment.

Kaedehara Kazuha

Kaedehara Kazuha is the first character we've met who hails from Inazuma. He is a samurai and a gentle soul with his own code of conduct. We first see him aboard the Crux, since Beidou took him in.

He opposes Baal, who declared him a criminal, forcing him into his current situation. Kaedehara Kazuha has traveled all over Teyvat and has become attuned to nature on his travels.

Kaeya

Quite the eccentric fellow, Kaeya is Diluc's adopted older brother. He's also the Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonius, and trusted aide of Acting Grand Master, Jean Gunnhildr. After all, how could he not be considering his manipulative tongue and strategic approach to missions?

Kaeya uses his charm to gain information and make people question their values, as well as his. He is often seen as the brains behind the Knights of Favonius.

Keqing

Keqing is everyone's favorite skeptic, even favored by the gods themselves. Her young and fresh mindset is exactly what the people of Liyue need as her radical approach to life leads the future, teaching others to walk their own path.

She is the Yuheng of the Liyue Qixing and firmly believes that the archons and adepti should allow humanity to determine their own future.

Klee

Playtime is dangerous for anyone within a 30-foot radius of Klee. Like the curious child she is, her toy of choice is anything that goes boom. She was entrusted to the Knights of Favonius by her mother Alice, an adventurer.

Klee loves fish blasting but this pass time often results in her being put into solitary by Jean. As well as Jean, other Knights have taken to watching over Klee. Kaeya has given her survival rules to follow, and Albedo is very fond of her, spending much of his time trying to keep her out of trouble.

Kujou Sara

Kujou Sara is a member of the Kujou clan who acts as an aide and bodyguard to Raiden Shogun. She helps enforce the vision decree and has previously been mentioned in Kazuha's backstory. She defeated Kazuha's friend in a duel, resulting in his demise and Kazuha fleeing Inazuma.

She is loyal and ruthless, although despises dishonorable actions such as torture. Kazuha found this difficult to understand in his dealing with her since she is faithful to Raiden Shogun, who is opressing the region with her lockdown of the region and vision hunt decree.

Mona

Mona is an astrologist who uses the title "Astrologist Mona Megistus" and possesses great abilities in her field. However, she doesn't believe in using her skills to earn money, instead just offering blunt and direct fortunes free of charge.

Her income comes from writing for an Astrology column. As such, she lives a frugal life, constantly investing in research to further her skills, sometimes at the expense of necessities.

Ningguang

Ningguang commands respect in Liyue as Tianquan of the Liyue Qixing. She's amassed a large personal wealth through hard work and perseverance which allowed her to build the Jade Chamber.

Ningguang balances maintaining order in Liyue with looking out for business opportunities. She's very savvy and is always seeking new opportunities.

Noelle

Despite the fact that helping others is her duty as a maid, it's something she truly enjoys. Like everyone's younger sister that people can't help but root for in life, Noelle dreams big and wishes to be one of the Knights of Favonius.

While many share the same dreams as her, her persistent desire to grow and learn will surely get her there. Whatever you need, Noelle will do her very best to provide.

Qiqi

Qiqi is a zombie who was resurrected by the Adepti into the body of a child. She now works in Liyue Harbor's Babu Pharmacy, watched over by Baizhu. She's incredibly forgetful and struggles to retain memories.

She also has to order herself to do things before she does them, due to a quirk of awakening herself.

Raiden Shogun

Raiden Shogun is the vessel of Beelzebul, the Electro Archon of Inazuma. Beelzebul is actually a twin and won the Archon war with her sister Baal, who later established the Shogunate. Beelzebul became the face of the Electro Archon, with the citizens of Inazuma believing there was only one god, Baal.

After suffering tremendous loss when her sister died, Beelzebul passed control of the region to her "puppet" or "vassel", Raiden Shogun, who now believes unwaveringly in the concept of Eternity. In pursuit of the creation of a place where everything remains the same, a vision supported by many followers who revere her, she oversees the vision hunt decree which is enforced by the Kujou Clan, who manage security and military affairs in Inazuma.

Razor

Razor was raised by Andrius, the Wolf of the North, and his wolf pack, after being abandoned as a baby. He is at home in the wild, although has recently started mixing a little more with Mondstadt's residents.

He will fiercely protect his wolf pack family but does consider humans to be friends. He's protective and honest but lacks social graces due to his background.

Rosaria

Rosaria is a sister in the Church of Favonius in Mondstadt, but you wouldn't realize unless you recognized her unique interpretation of a nun's attire.

She's an unpredictable woman, often perceived as harsh and cold. If you're expecting to find her at choir practice then don't, she refuses to attend as she deems it "boring." Instead, she keeps her focus on the safety of the city, eliminating any threats she sees.

Sangonomiya Kokomi

Sangonomiya Kokomi is the Divine Priestess of Watatsumi Island in Inazuma. She's a descendent of the Sangonomiya clan and is currently leading the Sangonomiya Resistance.

She is a skilled strategist and while not always directly involved in the every day current affairs of Watatsumi, she is actively helping fight the Vision Decree.

Sayu

Sayu is a young woman who is child-like in appearance due to her tiny height and delicate features. She is very strong thanks to her vision, which allows her to yield a Claymore, no easy feat for one so small. However, she is also very upset about her height and wishes to become taller.

In an attempt to grow, Sayu often neglects her other duties as Shuumatsuban's resident ninja in favor of sleeping, believing this to be the answer to her problems. She has learned a number of ninjutsu techniques while trying to find ways to evade enemies and take a nap instead of fighting.

Shenhe

Shenhe was born into an exorcist family, yet rather than being raised in this business, she was abandoned by her father, intended as a sacrifice. It is unclear how she survived against the monster she faced, yet she did.

She would climb Mt. Hulao and watch the clouds before scavaging for sustenance in the area. This behavior caught the eye of Cloud Retainer, who offered her the chance to cut dies with the mortal world. Shenhe took advantage of this immediately, becoming a student of the Adepti. She has now been isolated for several years, causing her to become distant and indifferent.

Sucrose

Sucrose is Albedo's assistant and she specializes in bio-alchemy. She has an insatiable curiosity and seeks to enrich the world through science.

During her time in Mondstadt she has created several interesting things, including jumbo Dandelions. She is usually found experimenting and meticulously documenting her results, which are often mixed in terms of success.

Tartaglia

Tartaglia is often known by his alias of Childe. He is the eleventh of the Eleven Harbingers of the Fatui and is considered one of the most dangerous.

Childe is in charge of the Fatui's funding in Liyue and lives for chaos. He is very confident and brash, often appearing to be unpredictable and cunning.

Thoma

Thoma first become known to Traveler when they landed in Inazuma. As housekeeper to the Kamisato Clan, he is also a known 'fixer' of problems, as shown during the Archon quest chain. He is very friendly and fits in with any crowd he's part of. This approachability helps him carry out his duties.

While he serves as Ayaka's help, she also considers him a friend. Thoma is very responsible and has a serious side, which compliments Ayaka's personality well, enabling the pair to work well together.

Tighnari

Tighnari is a Forest Watcher from the Avidya Forest. He is steadfast and reliable, serving as a guide for those who are wandering, as well as a protector of the area. He's a very strong communicator and wishes to teach those he encounters about how to respect the forest.

Traveler

Traveler is the main protagonist of the game and you will play through story quests as either Lumine, the female twin, or Aether, the male twin, both of which are referred to as Traveler throughout the game. Whichever you choose they will be searching for their sibling.

We do not know how old they actually are but it has been estimated that they're over 3000 years old. The twins were separated after fighting an ancient God while trying to escape Teyvat during a great war, speculated to be the Archon War. Each now seeks the other.

Venti

Xiao

Xiao is an adeptus and the only remaining Yaksha of the five sent to subdue demonic spirits in Liyue. His Yaksha name is Alatus but he currently lives a solitary life under the name Xiao at the Wangshu Inn. He is polite and reserved, preferring his own company to that of others.

This is because he suffers constant pain due to negative karma gained in the line of his duties which he doesn't wish to inflict upon anyone else.

Xingqiu

Xingqiu is the son of the manager of the Feiyun Commerce Guild but prefers books to commerce. He's polite, well-mannered, and often found reading or studying.

This well-read youngster also has a mischievous side and longs to be one of the heroes he reads about in the books he devours. While his antics have got the guild into trouble, he always manages to talk his way out of tight spots.

Xinyan

Xinyan is single-handedly trying to popularize rock 'n' roll in Liyue, a sound that hails from Fontaine. Music is in her soul and she frequently performs throughout Liyue Harbor.

She's loud, defiant, passionate, rebellious, and everything else a great rockstar should be. Using a guitar she made herself she performs self-penned songs to anyone who will listen, bringing her sound to Liyue, one day at a time.

Yae Miko

Yae means Chief Priest and Miko is the Guuji of the Grand Narakami Shrine. We are unsure how long she has been in this role but is referred to by several Archons and described as an "old friend" of both Morax and Baal, suggesting that it is likely a long time. She is also one of Raiden Shogun's only friends, close enough for the pair to be on first name terms.

We also see another side to Miko when she's running the Yae Publishing House. This feeds into her love of reading and literature in general, and being here lifts her spirits. She's a Kitsune and does have a fox form, but we have not seen this so far.

Yanfei

Yanfei was born to a human mother and an Adeptus father, similarly to Ganyu. When she was grown her parents set off on an adventure, leaving her under the care of Madam Ping, who knew her father. Now living in Liyue, Yanfei has built a name for herself as a highly-skilled legal advisor.

Yanfei's Adeptus heritage doesn't seem to affect her. She lives her life like other humans in the city and never entered into a contract with Rex Lapis, due to being born in peacetime. She is very intelligent and knowledgeable with a strong sense of justice. The law is her passion and she has learned as much as possible about it. While she specializes in Liyue law she does have legal knowledge that spans other regions of Teyvat as well. She takes her job very seriously, and even Ningguang respects her legal knowledge.

The Liyue "tea shop" has incredibly bad service, and is unaccessible by players. It is used as a front for a casino that Yelan now oversees.

In public, Yelan is very pleasant and polite, yet maintains an air of secrecy. She still does some work for the Ministry and her intelligence is accurate enough that Ningguang seems to tolerate her absence, while Keqing appreciates any help she can get.

Yun Jin

Yun Jin is a creative soul, being a writer, director, and singer, famous for putting on plays for the people of Liyue. She's the director of the Yun-Han Opera Troupe and is known for her ability to turn her hand to any role, her beautiful singing, and her detailed costumes.

She has a strong friendship with Xinyan and is known to be incredibly friendly in private, with a more graceful and refined public persona when out and about in Liyue.

Zhongli

Zhongli works for the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor and always appears calm and reserved. He has an incredible amount of knowledge about Liyue's history and culture, something later revealed to be due to his true identity.

Zhongli takes life seriously but is often unaware of the realities of being mortal. He is mostly known for forgetting his wallet, despite being willing to freely spend Mora.
