The whirlwind-summoning Traveler is the protagonist of Genshin Impact and the first character whom players learn to use in battle. Given the Traveler's ubiquity, it's a fair bet that the character sees a lot of use among casual players. While the Traveler can later change to other elements, sticking with Anemo lets you keep tried-and-true strategies throughout your journey.

Keeping the Anemo Traveler in your lineup offers plenty of synergy with the rest of your party, and the blonde wanderer is no slouch in combat themself. With these tips, you can make the Traveler the star of your team.

Build Around Elemental Reactions

The key advantage of Anemo, whether it's used by the Traveler or someone else, is that it can easily spread elemental status effects among your enemies. At the press of a button, you can inflict Pyro, Cryo, Hydro, or Electro on a group of foes and deal extra damage to them at the same time. For this reason, you'll want to take advantage of the reactions between elements even more than you normally would.

Having at least one Electro character on your team is essential for the Anemo Traveler. After spreading Electro via Swirl, you'll be in a strong position to inflict significant area damage with Hydro or Pyro, causing chain lightning or explosions as the elements react. Since this combo requires at least three elements in your party, consider selecting a fourth character who matches the element of a character already on the team. That way, the entire party can benefit from the associated element's resonance.

Elemental Resonances That Work Well With Anemo Traveler

Element Resonance Effects
Anemo
  • All characters move ten percent faster.
  • Elemental skills cool down five percent faster.
  • Stamina is consumed fifteen percent slower.
Electro
  • Hydro effects are shortened by forty percent for party members.
  • Every five seconds, characters affected by Electro-Charged, Overload, or Superconduct will generate an elemental particle.
Hydro
  • Pyro effects are shortened by forty percent for party members.
  • All party members regain thirty percent more hit points when healed.
Pyro
  • Cryo effects are shortened by forty percent for party members.
  • All party members' ATK increases by one-fourth.

Dress For Success

As with any other Genshin Impact character, the difference between an okay Traveler and a great Traveler is their equipment. Since the Traveler wants to deploy their elemental skill as often as possible, gear that reduces cooldown times allows you to keep the Anemo winds blowing strong. After unlocking the Traveler's first Ascension Phase, attack buffs are also useful as you'll be working basic attacks into your rotation to take advantage of Slitting Wind.

Naturally, equipment that boosts Anemo damage is also a great fit for the Traveler. If you're using a team that has a second Anemo character such as Venti, you may need to split gear between them unless you've been very lucky with your drops. Consider the strengths of the second character and equip them appropriately, even if it means pulling some optimization away from the Traveler.

Play To Your Team's Strengths

As much fun as it would be to solve every problem with a tornado, Genshin Impact lets you have four characters on your team for a reason. Chances are you'll have characters in your lineup who can hit harder or take more damage than the Traveler, and that's fine. The Traveler isn't a solo character, so be ready to rapidly cycle through your lineup. This not only allows you to keep your reactions going but also lets you bring in the correct character for the situation at hand the moment they're needed.

Keep Enemies Grouped Together

The Traveler's Anemo powers work best against tight enemy formations. The elemental skill Palm Vortex and elemental burst Gust Surge deal significant damage over a small area, so it's important to hit as many targets as possible whenever you activate them.

Early in your journey, Amber's Baron Bunny is a great way to lure enemies to a fixed point before unleashing either ability. As an added bonus, you'll spread Pyro over a fairly wide area if you time your attack with the bunny's explosion!

Tank characters like Xinyan or Beidou also work as decoys, but since you'll be closer to the enemy when you switch back to the Traveler you'll need to time your skills more carefully so as not to take unnecessary damage.

Go Big Or Go Home

Many of the Anemo Traveler's most impressive abilities don't come into play until the character has been significantly leveled up, with Constellations and Ascension Ranks. The first and fourth Ascension Ranks grant the Traveler increased damage output and a self-healing factor, respectively, and their Constellation significantly boosts the power of their elemental abilities.

That said, this kind of leveling takes a lot of grinding for the necessary resources. If you're planning to make the Traveler a permanent part of your team, be sure you're in it for the long haul. Luckily, the Traveler is easier to Ascend than most characters, so you won't be pulling resources away from other candidates.
