Chongyun is a character that can be a bit confusing for Genshin Impact characters to play. He is a claymore user, but unlike Diluc, his burst isn't a powerful, quick-moving bird. The four-star claymore user can still be quite fierce in battle, given he has the right weapon and artifact equipped. You should also note that Chongyun usually operates best as a sub-Dps or a supporting character, rather than the main DPS.

This is partially due to the fact that his non-elemental attacks aren't as powerful as most characters in his class, and his burst turns all damage done inside its field to cryo damage which can greatly impede reactions.

Chongyun Build Guide - Best Weapons

To get the most out of Chongyun, you want to give him a powerful weapon to try to help increase his attack. The claymore should focus on strengthening his base attack or buffing his cryo damage. Below are three swords that can help to strengthen Chongyun:

Weapon Base Attack Special Stat Passive Ability
Skyward Pride 48 Energy Recharge +8% Chongyun's damage will be increased between 8% to 16%. In addition, landing a hit on an enemy has a 60% chance of summoning a vacuum blade that deals between 80% to 160% damage to opponents for up to eight hits in a row.
Wolf's Gravestone 46 Attack +10.8% Chongyun's attack gets between a 20% to 40% boost, and hitting opponents that have below 30% health will give your team a 40% to 80% attack boost for twelve seconds.
Snow-Tombed Starsilver 44 Physical Damage +7.5% Hitting an opponent with non-elemental attacks from Chongyun has a 60% to 100% chance of summoning a cryo icicle to fall on the field. Enemies will be dealt between 180% to 140% damage when hit; if they are weak to cryo, this jumps to between 200% to 360%.

You can forge Snow-Tombed Starsilver for free after unlocking the recipe in Dragonspine. Both Skyward Pride and Wolf's Gravestone are usually available through the standard wish banner and have an upped rate.

Chongyun Build Guide - Best Artifacts

There are two artifact sets currently in the game that go well with Chongyun. Like most artifacts, they can be obtained for free from domains and are quite easy to get. Below are the artifact sets that work best with Chongyun.

Artifact Set Two-Piece Set Four-Piece Set
Blizzard Slayer +15% Cryo Damage Chongyun gets a 20% crit rate boost against opponents weak to cryo. In addition, if an opponent is frozen, he will receive another 20% boost to crit his rate.
Gladiators Finale Attack +18% Chongyun will receive a 35% attack boost when using his normal attack.

Depending on your playstyle, it may be best for the two sets above to be combined, especially if you don't feel like many of the enemies you will be using Chongyun to fight are weak to cryo. Blizzard Strayer can be incredibly useful when fighting Oceanid, a boss known for being hard to farm quickly.
